On the bright side ... One has been found. I haven't updated the page yet.
But there's a new one to take its place ...

KEEP.YOUR.CATS.INDOORS.
and this will not happen. Ignore the realities of an urban environment, and you have no one to blame but yourself.
While walking in a park today I saw a large amount of hairball vomit (probably coyote) full of black and white fur. I don't know of any wild animals with that coloration; undoubtedly someone is lamenting the loss of their missing tuxedo cat.

Anonyme: small chance it could have been a skunk... (much greater chance it was a kitty).

I really have a lot of compassion for those losing their cats. Mine is indoors--unless she sneaks out. As the weather gets more warm it is more difficult to keep her from slipping out between my legs. I just do the best I can and hope.

SS: skunks - now there's a critter that really hasn't urbanized, has it? At least I haven't heard of any - yet.
kmw: that's interesting - I have two cats and a dog, and despite the fact that I let the dog in and out many times per day, the cats never escape. That's because I do more than hope for the best - I take care to make sure that they don't get out. I couldn't live with myself if one of them were to suffer some horrible death or injury due to my negligence.

Yup... Most missing cats aren't missing... They were lunch. Cue Elton John singing "Circle of Life"

Or hit by a car, or ate something poisonous (all those pesticides/herbicides still in use, antifreeze, etc.) ... and that's not necessarily "The Circle of Life."
Anyway, I wonder if any of the animal advocates who are WSB Forums members have the links to "how to convert an outdoor cat to an indoor cat." Putting up three lost cats a night, I'm thinking the pets page needs that link. I just googled with various seemingly relevant search terms and couldn't find the resource.

We have two indoor cats and a feral cat that we take care of outside (won't come in the house) and we had a full size coyote on our front step a month ago. He was kind of mangy but looked well fed enough.
Our cats wouldn't last long outside.....Posted 11 months ago # -
WSB--we have some 'links' and post them.
Two of our F-cubers have outdoor enclosure for their cats (which are dog kennels with tops). It anyone would like to see them, shoot us an email.
It's simple; inexpensive; and saves lives.

And so many more songbirds! Good to see cats being kept indoors.

As we post these links, please note that we do not necessarily agree with everything the 'authors' say. We are simply providing links to information you can use to bring your outdoor cat, inside.
A consistent theme is that your cat needs lots of opportunity for activity and your patience. Do not punish your cat for trying to get outside. Instead, provide positive reinforcement for 'indoor' behavior.
