Snowmageddon? What are your thoughts

  1. Morning, Afternoon, Evening everyone, as some of you may know there was a gentleman who went by Patrick that gave frequent updates regarding the snow, ice and " Treemageddon " that we went through this past week. Well I am that Patrick and I am curious as to what your thoughts are regarding my updates whether you found them valuable, insightful, ridiculous, stupid or just irrelevant. Please keep it tactful and resourceful, I know that some of you versed a displeasure for my " informative updates " but I got the impression that most of you either enjoyed them or found them relevant to some degree. Let the criticism and praise fly. Have a great day folks.

    Patrick,
Your updates were a great help and I appreciate your time and efforts to help our community anticipate and deal with the snowy, icy weather. Thank you!

  3. Patrick,

    What LStephens said.

Admittedly, I may have skimmed over some of the most detailed stuff in some of your posts, but there are others out there that like to have that much detail, and that enjoy the learning experience your info provides.

In any case, I appreciate the effort that anyone puts forth in contributing to the community in a positive and helpful way.

Sadly, there's always going to be the naysayers, (not to be confused with those that offer constructive criticism in a thoughtful and respectful manner), whether they are the types that complain about almost everything, or whether they are being trolls or flamers.

One thing I've learned though, is that there are way more kind and appreciative people in our community, than naysayers.

Please remember, that the commenters are just a fraction of the overall reader base here on WSB, there was very likely a multitude of others that read and appreciated your info, that didn't comment.

I welcomed the input. When I had time to absorb it I read it. When I didn't, I didn't. That's what is great about freedom of choice. Great job, Patrick! Initially, I had assumed that you were the Patrick from the WSB Tracy and Patrick team.

  5. I also agree with the previous comments. Providing information and/or additional analysis in a timely manner, and that is not available elsewhere, is always helpful.

Perhaps posting your background/expertise in this thread might help establish your "street cred" with the naysayers. Good on ya for taking the initiative.

One additional thought that occurred to me as I read all the reports - and this has nothing to do with your running commentary Patrick - is that I noticed that oft times someone would ask a question that could easily be answered directly on another web site. I would think seeking an online response elsewhere would be faster than awaiting a response from a forumite. Perhaps a list of web site resources could be put together when an event throws the area into turmoil that would be helpful for those FAQs. Buehler? Anyone?

Not trying to initiate thread creep here... I just think my observation is related to the subject at hand.

Thanks again Patrick and thanks also for identifying yourself. I likewise thought you were Patrick S of the WSB Team.

  6. When I saw the name "Patrick" I automatically thought of WSB co-publisher, Patrick Sand. I suspect alot of people thought the same at first.
I very much appreciated your weather info, however, and hope you will continue providing the info.
Soooo, maybe if you changed your sign-in name......

I thought your posts were keenly interesting. I absorbed them all, then compared them to Cliff Mass. The result tended to come out, Stay at home. Which I did.

    Sorry t'weren't me.

While I was trained to be a tv weather man in college I had to think seriously about how wearing plaid sports jackets on the 5pm news would impact my dignity. Therefore I decided against pursuing it.

BTW - good to see you at the Feedback last night MIWS!

  11. So, I see the feedback so far for the most part has been positive and per a request in a previous post I am including some useful links for some of you who want more information regarding weather.

This link is for NOAA http://www.noaawatch.gov/

    Cliff Mass http://cliffmass.blogspot.com/

NCEP model guidance ( various models used in forecasting ) http://mag.ncep.noaa.gov/NCOMAGWEB/appcontroller?prevpage=index&MainPage=index&cat=MODEL+GUIDANCE&page=MODEL+GUIDANCE

PNEFO ( Pacific Northwest Environmental Forecasts and Observations ) http://www.atmos.washington.edu/mm5rt/

I hope these are helpful, some of these sites are going to be foreign to some of you so if you would like help understanding them please don't hesitate to ask me.

I enjoyed the updates, found them useful. I hope my response was not taken as criticism. I was just finding a lot of different forecasts for that storm and, like most of us, was trying to figure out who to believe.
Keep them coming. Maybe post updates here in the forums.

  14. @smokeycretin9..... There are absolutely no hard feelings regarding the snow situation, I just felt compelled in some small way to keep my neighbors abreast of the situation.
