Simple Home Safety Tip

  1. I would not doubt if this has been in a thread at some point, but just heard this tip over the weekend. If you have a car with an alarm, go to sleep with the keys next to your bed. If you here an intruder, activate the car alarm. The sound is a great deterrent!

  2. Does anyone actually pay attention to car alarms? I have ignored them for years unless it sounds like mine. Way too many false alarms to be bothered.

  3. We keep our car in our garage and live in a house. If you set off the alarm and someone is trying to break into your home, they will be startled and leave. Obviously, it will only work for certain situations, but I feel anything to work as a deterrent is a good tip.

@k - we must've received the same mass email.

It's not a bad idea, but as Carson said...car alarms don't attract a lot of attention anymore.

  5. I certainly wouldn't rely on a car alarm as a security system alternative, but it can be useful. At my previous residence, we had parking off an alley behind Delridge. We frequently had drunken idiots stumbling through the alley late at night, as well as kids up to no good. Once, a group of kids thought it'd be funny to pee on cars. I heard them, grabbed my keys and hit the panic alarm just as the kid started to pee on my car. Pretty sure it all crawled right back up inside as he and his buddies ran away full speed. :)
