caro955ParticipantIn 2013, my entire sewage line collapsed. After 5 weeks of Rescue Rooter at my home, I now have a brand new line. My challenge is the City of Seattle. A scope of my line to the City’s found that the juncture wye has a huge hole and is deteriorating. The City never follow-up with me back in 2013 about how the issue would be handled. Now, in 2015, I filed another complaint because I had Rescue Rooter out to check my line and they were seriously concerned for my property given the City still had not addressed the damaged wye. They told me the problem is not bad enough to merit repair. Has anyone had an issue like this? I am at 35th and Thistle at a low point. I am continuing my dispute with the City over the reparations but I don’t know what rights I have as a home owner. My line is all new. But that isn’t going to protect my home from the potential sewage back up into it should the City’s line fall apart more. I have a sub-level garage and laundry room. Any suggestions, advice, insight, anything to help educate me on what I can do or what others have done here in WS with the same or similar storyline. I appreciate it!

wakefloodParticipantIt sounds like the distance from your line’s end and the drop to the mainline at the wye isn’t very much? I had similar issues up to the wye a few years back but luckily, the drop to the mainline from my basement floor was quite substantial and isn’t likely to affect me should further deterioration occurs.
I wish I knew of an obvious process for you. Wonder if you’ve contacted the city via a piece of legal letterhead? That usually kicks the issue up in priority?

wakefloodParticipantAnd it might be worth a call to your home insurance agent to see what is/isn’t covered under your policy and include that information – if the city would be pursued for repair reparations?

pennidoggParticipantYou may want to look into a check value to prevent the sewer line from backing up into your basement. I know it’s an extra expense but it may be worth it for peace of mind.
