Seattle Water Sewer Bill

I'm curious as to what SPU/City Light customers pay for their monthly or 60 day billing cycles. I've used the city of Seattle cost average estimator, but I'm still struggling to understand the cost of SPU specifically.

SPU bill is approximately $240 every 60 days for 2 people. Smallest garbage can, no yard waste, don't water lawn.

    Thanks

  2. 181. Smallest garbage can, yard waste, container gardens.

  3. We pay similar and we usually have a good amount of yard waste. Something to think about are water leaks or running toilets/dripping faucets. It can really add up.

Seattle has some of the most expensive water and sewer in the nation. This is because we are victims of our own success and we are implementing big environmental projects right now. For example, our water usage is at 1960s low levels, yet we have major infrastructure needs like Brightwater and expensive CSO projects all over the City. Since SPU isn't selling as much water, rates go up to pay for these capital costs. WSB covered the almost 10% jump in sewer rates earlier this year. This might seem reasonable, except we have had a number of these jumps in the past 10 years.

So, the more we conserve the more expensive our water and sewer becomes. Ironic right?

2 adults, 32 gal garbage can, 64 gal yard waste can, large yard - but limited watering if any. Last year we averaged ~198/bill. This year is more along ~$220/bill.

  7. Family of 4 (2 small children so more laundry than most): 32 Gal can (downsized after diapers were done), yardwaste, minimal watering. $280-300/month.

    We have 4 toilets but are of the mindset, "If it's yellow....." {Sorry if that's TMI"}

    Jissy,

I sure hope that is for TWO months. It is hard to believe that you pay 600 dollars a billing cycle. WOW.

Sort of off topic...but future Improvements to more effective (cost and energy) desalination processing will hopefully improve the infrasture for water/sewer needs.

There are thousands of plants world wide in production and it seems to be more effective than ever...but it has it's energy consumption drawbacks, waste hazards, and overall yield issues (not 1:1)..

Improvements will clearly aid in solving global food production and likely rise of ocean waters - but that is another post for another day. Arab countries are benefitting...in some ways...

  10. Yes, Gen Hill, sorry about that... it is for a billing cycle meaning for 2 months. Sheesh, I even read it over to make sure I had it right -- that's what I get for trying to "multi-task".

    1 person last billing cycle

    Water $ 37.34
    Sewer $ 32.04
    Solid Waste $ 61
Mini Curb, next to smallest can
    YardWaste, largest can
    Recycling

  12. I live in Burien, my trash, recycle and large yard waste is about 130.00. My water/sewer is only 55.00, but that is every month.

  13. Family of 4 in a house. Don't water much this time of year. Large size food/yard waste, small size (but not the smallest) garbage can. $330. We do not have the newer washing machines and dishwasher though. Need to upgrade since washing machine and dishwasher are both 13 years old.

  14. $230 per billing cycle - smallest garbage can, yw, recycling. 2 adults, 2 toddlers.

it's the sewer that costs you, about 70% of that goes to king county.

remember to minimize your water use from dec-apr as that is the basis for your sewer charges during the summer months.

this is to account for water you may be using for your yard and is not going intothe sewer system.

  15. Single household combined utility bill: Water, sewer, yard waste, smallest garbage container: $138 for two months.

  16. Average $170 per two-month cycle this year for 2 adults, mini can (next-to-smallest), bi-weekly garden watering all summer.

  17. Family of four, energy efficient w/d, regular sized-garbage can, full recycle bin and yard waste almost every two weeks. Water the yard quite a bit.

    Close to a $400 average....yikes!

  18. Someone at my office sent this along: Persons qualifying for the City of Seattleā€™s Utility Discount Program (UDP) may be eligible to get 50% percent off their Seattle City Light and Seattle Public Utilities bills. For example Family of 4 making less than $4,819/month might qualify see website http://www.seattle.gov/mybill
