HMC RichParticipantIf you haven’t heard, Democrat Troy Kelley, who won the State Auditors job in the 2012 Elections is in deep trouble with the Feds. Governor Inslee and a host of people from the Democratic Party have asked him to step down.
The Seattle Times Editorial board has also stated he should step down. There is just one problem. They endorsed him as the candidate to pick back during the election. EPIC FAIL. They said his Republican opponent was too mean. Well, his opponent was right. They truly blew it.
The press has a job to fact check and investigate our political leaders. They give way too many politicians a pass. You see it federally and at times locally. Obviously budgets at the local level might hinder some but maybe a little bit of background checking might have helped.
Here are links to the Times recommendation, then the latest links.

The last sentence in hindsight is sadly hilarious.
Timeline of Kelley’s career
Latest Editorial
We have to see if he is found guilty or not guilty, but I wouldn’t bet on him getting a not guilty decision. The Seattle Times should apologize to their readership also.

JanSParticipantwe have to agree on this one, Rich…

JoBParticipantRich…
would you have had the Times include his current indictment in their prior not so sterling endorsement?
I am delighted to see Kelley indicted.. long overdue in my opinion…
but i don’t think we can blame the Times for the length of time it takes to build a solid case against a public figure like Kelley…
the charges were unsubstantiated at the time of the campaign and Kelley did characterize them as nuisance suits.. duly reported by the Times.
What leaves me chuckling this morning is your fervor to indict the Times for endorsing Kelley while a few of the Republican hopefuls struggle to rise through he mire of their public.. not private.. misdeeds.
we can both rejoice when criminals who abuse public trust are indicted.. let’s hope he is convicted…
but people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones… especially not retroactive stones

skeeterParticipantI don’t know if it is due to lack of budget or lack of time or lack of desire or lack of interest but I’ve noticed that there is really limited investigative journalism these days. If Bernie Madoff was to run for an elected position in Washington it is likely he would get an endorsement from the Times.

JanSParticipantlet me make my previous post clear….I do not give a damn about the Times. I don’t read it. But I do give a damn about indicting the auditor, and wanting him to resign…and go to trial.
