I am looking for art classes in West Seattle. If anyone has any recommendations I would very much appreciate it. I am interested in exploring many different types of art, so it doesn't have to be specific. If you have any recommendations for drawing classes, painting (watercolor, oils, acrylics), photography, chinese brush painting, collage, etc. please let me know. I am not picky. I am a beginner but want to experiment! I am specifically looking for somewhere in West Seattle to support local business or artists and to connect with my community! Thanks!

Try the Alki Community Center -- there are many different types of art classes for adults and kids that occur at the Alki Bathhouse -- which until it was renovated, was devoted exclusively to art. (206) 684-7430 I dont think the class program is on the web, but there is a web site for the Bathhouse. http://www.seattle.gov/parks/Arts/alkiart.htm

If you are interested in fiber, there are MANY knitters around and classes in that area. We have a group, alos. Also there's a cool sewing outfit on California by Cafe' Ladro. You can choose a project or take a certain class. Very cool! What about South Seattle Community College? I'll bet they have stuff. Most CCs do. There is also the ceramics place in SODO kinda. They have classes and seem really cool.

Ditto Ellenater - check out South Seattle. Also look into Youngstown Cultural Arts Center on Delridge. The various community centers usually have classes too.

South Seattle community college has an art program. It's just down there on 16th.
They have art history, various drawing and painting and if I remember correctly they have sculpting as well?

I took a pottery class at the alki bath house and was very happy with it. I also took a couple photography courses at sscc and they were great too.

We live here in WS and my wife Mimi teaches a beginner ornamental welding class at her studio just across the Duwamish River. She is a great teacher!
Class registration is handled either directly through her or through South Seattle Community College or the ASUW Experimental College.

The important thing to do is get out there and start trying things out:)

Not in WS, but Pratt Art Center has amazing classes. It's less than 15 minutes from WS. http://www.pratt.org
