Yes we need the bus. Because of the bus I can work full time, without the bus I could only work 10-2 having one in middle school and one in elementary.

Of course it is needed. Not everybody has a stay at home parent to drive their children to work.

Best option? Try ONLY option for many families.

The bus is also a greener option. Instead of having every kid driven individually it's mass transport.
Also I'm sure it helps with congestion at school with drop off and pick up if not every kid is getting a ride from a parent.

I agree with the pro's nighthawk mentions.
Any bus drivers who can give observations on percentages of seats filled throughout the school year?

Yes, we need school buses but only for the school you are zoned for. If you choose to send your child to another school then it should be your responsibility to get them there.

Once apon a time before busing took over we had to walk. Walked from 36th by the freeway entrance all the way to jefferson elementry and my older siblings walked to madison jr high now middle and west seattle high school so kids are lucky these days they dont have to walk all things considered it was around 1965 opps showing age again.

No bus. Go to your neighborhood school and walk there. That's what I did growing up. Carpool with other families if that isn't an option. Figure it out.

it's too bad
but life isn't like it was when we were growing up...until we restore it
we need to bus the kids to school.Posted 1 year ago # -
Seriously? People this is ridiculous. Of course we need busses. Notably, we do not live in 1965. Our awareness and perceptions of the world are that there are more dangers out there for kids than we felt back then. We HAVE to have busses to take kids to school. Realistically, people are not going to be comfortable having their Kindergartener walk a mile and a half by themselves to school. For people who work, or don't have cars to ferry their children themselves, or want to make a greener choice, or or or or a MILLION reasons. There needs to be a bus ride offered to families who don't live within walking distance of their school. Even their neighborhood school is not always that close (have you looked at how big the Gatewood reference area is, or Alki?) Trying to argue to cut busses will save money is pennywise and pound foolish. It will also cause poorer school attendance for kids and put children in harms way, and that is not in any of our best interests.
