Sad News About A Kitty

  1. We found a cat near 47th and Alaska SW that had clearly been eaten by another animal and likely within the last 10 hours or so. I feel really bad that someone has likely lost a beloved pet. The cat is grey, probably a Russian Blue mix and that's about all we've been able to determine - no collar or other identifying marks. If anyone has lost a grey cat in the area and wants to contact us, please respond. Thank you.

  2. Today I noticed signs about a missing gray kitty; they are posted at the corner of 41st & Charlestown, & another at 40th & Charlestown.

If no one responds to your posting, you might want to go by for the contact info & follow up to see if it's the same cat. It's kind of far away from 47th/Alaska, but thought I'd mention it.

A woman was posting lost signs (probably the same as homedk mentioned above) at Hotwire coffee Thursday night.

  4. If it was recognizable enough did you check the Pets page? Had a couple matching that description in the past week or two.

Hobbes was the kitty we saw the flyer for.

  6. Thanks for letting me know. I'll check out the postings. I'm keeping my own kitten in a lot more, which is driving her crazy, but I really hope to never see that again.

  7. I don't think it was Hobbs. There was one identifying mark... its tail was shorter than normal. My neighbor who also spotted it mentioned the tail.

In consideration of the owners, I'm hesitant to keep discussing theories, but in lieu of your direct contact info, TDe, was it a short-haired cat (you mentioned Russian Blue)? There is a longer-haired gray manx (short tail), Fuzzy, on the missing pets page. My apologies to Fuzzy's people, not trying to be insensitive, and I'd hate to wonder if it were my cat. horrid.

  9. I know what you mean, GenHill. I debated on whether or not to post at all, wondering if an owner might prefer not to know. It looked enough like my own cat that it has caused me to keep her indoors a whole lot more than usual and even into keeping a closer watch on my dog inside my fenced yard, although the dog isn't small. The cat was short haired, with a tail about 3/4 smaller than my own grey cat.

This is so unfortunate. TDe, I wonder if you still have the remains which might include the nape of the neck/shoulders (I know, vivid and awful,but...), perhaps you could bag it (put it in the freezer perhaps until you can get to a vet) and then bring it to a clinic to see if the poor thing was microchipped. Also, Animal Control might do that too??? Not sure though.

My condolences to the owner, whoever they might be.

  11. Good suggestion, Dood. Thanks. No chip reported and remains now disposed. Lessons for us all I suppose. It's a harsh world outside for small pets and co-existing with wild animals calls for care and vigilence.

  12. if you want your cat to experience the greater outdoors, build a cat enclosure because a fence isn't going to keep them in
