***RUDE TEENAGERS @ DELRIDGE SKATEPARK***

  1. The skatepark is for all ages. However, we have some very rude teenagers that think they can bully younger kids off the DELRIDGE skatepark. Their aggression is displayed by running into the younger ones and flinging their boards towards them in an attempt to scare the younger ones off the skatepark. When they are called out by an adult these teenagers behavior is alarming. They have 0 respect. This isn't a matter of safety. These young ones that are being bullied are good skaters. TALK TO YOUR TEENAGERS ABOUT RESPECTING OTHERS!!!

It's sad that so many parents choose not to be involved in their kids lives anymore. Just allowing them to do whatever and can't give any of their time to guide them and teach them to be decent respectful people.

If only all the marijuana would relax 'em a bit. Perhaps we can toss Doritos their way.

Sometimes a good spanking and harsh punishment is in order. Parents must do whatever it takes to discipline their kids when they feel they have crossed the line.

  7. Hey everyone. Teenagers are a varied group, and there are always some bad apples. This was true before the skatepark, only now they have a place to congregate. This is a good thing because it's an opportunity for the community at large to engage with all these kids, including the police.
    .
I tried to encourage the Southwest Precinct to take advantage of this opportunity and engage with the kids right away. I suggested getting out of the car, talking to the kids, visiting the site often. I am not sure this is happening.
    .
No one should do anything that makes them feel uncomfortable, or put themselves in a situation where they feel threatened. You should always call the police if you feel threatened. But if you see something going on that you don't approve of, it's important to at least approach the kid being bullied, etc... and show them some support.
    .
Older skaters in the park are also a good place to go if you see something happening that seems negative. Sometimes an older skater can get the message across.
    .
Thanks for everyone's patience as we continue to make this skatepark a healthy and positive place for kids to go.

  8. MLJ, You are right.

I like taking my son to the skate park and he is young. I watch him closely. The older skaters are great with the young ones.

I also know some parents cannot watch their older kids due to a variety of reasons, and some of us have to watch the trouble makers and let them know their actions are not appropriate.

Overall, I believe the skate park has been positive.
