room rental

  1. Hi all -- need to book a simple space for 150-200 people in March, near Seattle (thought I'd start with my own backyard).
It's a sit-down dinner (casual) so we'll need tables/chairs/settings for all need a good-sized kitchen that we can have full access to. We're also having a silent auction (need 8-10 tables with plenty of browsing space) and a guest speaker (need a podium with AV and good sight lines).
Any experiences with the Masonic Hall? Seems about right (I guess I'd want the downstairs, not the upstairs?):

Any other comparable spaces in the area that I should look into? Budget is a factor; not looking for anything fancy, but willing to spend money for the right space.
    Thanks!

  3. Jason, the Masonic Hall would probably be a good space for your event. I'm a member of the Westside UU Congregation which meets weekly there, and we use that space for a lot of similar events. It's got a stage, we've used a podium down there, and there are microphones/sound system. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes/flatware and can be rented out as well with the space. Tons of tables available, both the big round tables or long narrow tables which we just used for a silent auction. Could be hard to get on a Friday/Saturday night (you didn't say when you were looking), but definitely work inquiring about. And yes, you'd want the "downstairs" which is what is in the photos at that link. The upstairs is the lodge room which would not serve your needs for this event.

You could also try the churches like Holy Rosary or Our Lady of Guadalupe. Or how about the American Legion on Alaska St.

  5. I defer to those with direct experience BUT if perchance the previous recommendations are unavailable -

The Sanctuary at Admiral is a lovely space (did a couple of stories during its recent quest for landmark status)

and then of course there's The Hall @ Fauntleroy

(which I see at least once a month when covering the 34th District Democrats' meetings)

There's also a banquet room at the West Seattle Golf Course, not sure if there are any membership requirements; I visited that one for the WS Democratic Women's city attorney debate before the election.

West Seattle Christian Church's new Activity Center also has a sizable space - it hosted indoor Movies on the Wall last winter and Halloween.

    Good luck!

  6. The Duwamish Longhouse also has rental/kitchen space.
Haven't seen it, I'm sure it's lovely. The rental monies sure would be going to a worthy cause.

  7. The new High Point Neighborhood Center has large rooms for rent, including food prep/staging areas. Weather permitting their spaces also spill out on to outdoor patios that face the adjacent park.
