sbreParticipantSearching the wsblog archives I see the most recent search for local roofers was 3 years ago, and I’m hoping for more current ones.
Composite shakes on a pitched roof with integral gutters (gutter problem being the main issue at present), located in the Admiral dist., if that helps.
Thanks for your time!!!!

B-squaredParticipantI had a new roof put on a few months ago. I chose Oasis as I had the most confidence in them, but honestly, I believe I would have been fine with any of the firms that provided bids as the job was pretty straight-forward. And I would have saved money had I gone with Berendt. It gets a little tricky if you haven’t had a roof put on recently and want to understand what it is you’re buying. It took me quite a while to get the bids so that they were apples to apples, and then to identify things that were going to be overkill for my little house. A bit of a learning curve, which i why i appreciated Oasis so much – i had lots of questions.
Here are the firms that I received bids from:
Oasis – Jordan
Berendt- Robert Salamone
Sound Roofing Systems – Vince
A Better Roofing Company – Alan Scott
Most of these companies provide a discount if you are an Angies List member so even if you aren’t a member, it would pay for itself if you suddenly became one. FYI, i was also trying to chose a firm more or less local to south/west seattle area.

LStephensParticipantsbre,
We used A Better Roofing for our house and we couldn’t have been more pleased with their workers, the methods they used for protecting our house and gardens and the workmanship. We had a complete tear-off and their clean-up of the debris was meticulous. I don’t think we found a stray nail or debris anywhere when they were done. They did the complete tear-off and new roof in a noisy two days, but they were in and out and by the third day you couldn’t even tell all of that work had happened other than our roof looking good.
Let me also note that my spouse is a co-owner in a roofing company (BRD Roofing – they do flat roofs, not shakes or 3-tab) and A Better was the roofing company another roofing company owner chose. If I’m not mistaken, I believe the owner of A Better Roofing is a local WS resident as well. The BRD guys also have some good contacts for gutters.
sbre, you’re always welcome to come by and take a look at our roof or shoot us an email – stephensbl@comcast.net if we can help you with any questions.

smyParticipantWe also used A Better Roofing and were completely pleased with the work throughout the entire process. The bid was clear and comprehensive, both with baseline bid and options to choose from. Staff checked in regularly to let us know when materials would arrive, when the crew would start work, dumpster arrival/departure and to check in afterwards. We had a follow-up onsite to go over the work completed.
The bid also covered an area that we were particularly worried about, which was replacing plywood and how that would be covered if needed. Somewhat of an unknown (due to age of our home, layers of shingles overdue for replacement and poor original installation of the gutters/roof that meant plywood was soaking up water along the gutters), but it ended up being a good bit that needed to be replaced – the entire perimeter of the house where there are gutters. I looked at the truly awful plywood in the dumpster and talked with the site lead while they were removing the old and cutting in the new. Clearly they knew what they were doing, removing it only as-needed, and I was thankful to have a heads-up from the bid on what to expect for these added costs. Costs for this were completely in-line with the bid, which was a relief to no end.
We are completely happy with the new roof, the professionalism of all staff we worked with and their attention to detail, e.g. pretty much no debris left onsite, no damage to any plants on the property including alongside the entire length of a very narrow driveway next to the vegetable garden where they offloaded shingles and parked the dumpster with a terribly tight turn-radius, and Alan/staff being completely patient to explain options and answer questions along the way.
They really came through from start to finish!

4th of EightParticipantA Better Roofing Company.. Yes! All the way, great folks, crews, follow up, very happy with my roof. They also suggested getting roofline vents(instead of those ugly little pipes), and it looks so cool on my roof. Love it.
