RIP Ed the tuba man. Seattle sports just won't be the same without you. Such a sad loss.

Alas! Part of the opera-going experience in Seattle for me has always been the Tuba Man outside the Opera House. I missed him on Saturday night; I'm sad that he won't be there for the next performance.

This is so sad to me. When I first started to go to the Seahawk games in 1991 - he was there and continued to be there through the years. What a horrible and senseless act of violence committed by individuals without consciences.

I played softball against Ed (tuba man) years ago in a Church softball league. We never had more fun than when we played his team. He was a great guy. What a sensless crime. I hope they get all of the slimeballs that did this and lock um up and throw the key away.
RIP Ed

I was at the Seattle Center, attending a T-Birds game the night of the Kurt Cobain candlelight vigil. I remember Tuba Man playing "Smells Like Teen Spirit" on his tuba at the edge of the crowd.
He was a good guy. Stupid, pointless, cruelty.

The teens who killed him should never see daylight and be tried as adults for murder. Our system is so good that they will serve up until they are only 18 years old and let free on something like 5 years probation.

I hadn't heard about this and had to look it up; very sad indeed. In case someone else missed it -

Death at the hands of a gang of teens. The gang problem is getting worse. Mr. Mayor, I know you read the blogs and thank you for responding to the speed problem in West Seattle. Now its time to turn more focus to the rash of killings and shootings. We need fast action not only in Seattle but in King County and you work well with Mr. Simms!
Great story on KOMO 1000 today by Ken Schramm about Tuba Man and Richard Peterson, the trumpet guy. Tuba Man came to Shramm at one point to help defuse a turf battle between the two. As Ken told the story Richard was playing close to Tuba man and playing the same song, which was pissing Tuba Man off. Ken said Tuba Man finally talked to Richard, and Peterson agreed to work other locations away from Tuba Man. Ken said Richard wasn't trying to hone in on Tuba Man's money, he just wanted to jam with him. Thanks for great story Ken!
Ken also mentioned there may be a fund raiser for Tuba Mans mememorial. I hope to throw a few bucks into the case!!

Robin and Maynard used to have Tuba Man on with Richard Peterson for some pretty hilarious banter. They are no longer on the air, but have a great memorial to Ed on their website. http://www.Robinandmaynard.com

Next, we need to fix our city. I'm thankful for this great outlet (WSB) to vent our views, frustrations, and hope for the future!

I can't believe this. I worked at all the stadiums and arenas in the area for years, he was at every game.
This is very senseless. RIP Tuba Man.
