WSBKeymasterThank you – I posted here to ask for visiting vet recs some time back when we realized something was wrong. Multiple recommendations for City Cat Mobile Vet led us to deal with them, and she diagnosed Sweetie with intestinal lymphoma a month and a half ago. Really wasn’t anything we could do about it. Despite as much food as she wanted and we could offer (I was baking chicken for her in the final weeks, too), she kept losing weight, and deteriorating in other ways … before I had to make a decision about euthanasia, she stretched out behind the couch while we were out covering things on 4th of July, and quietly moved on to the next plane of existence.
We adopted her at a Seattle Animal Shelter adult foster cat adopt-a-thon in fall 2002; our son, then 6, singled her out and renamed her. She was the one who kept me company during the day while our other cat Miles, also now 13 but adopted a few years after we got Sweetie, slept … so it’s a bit lonely. For now. – TR

anonymeParticipantI am so sorry to hear of this. Cats are just as loving as dogs, their faces are just less expressive. I lost my old feline friend six months ago and the pain is still very real. Just like with humans, some cats are more special than others. Sounds like Sweetie was one of those. I’m glad your kitty passed peacefully on her own without having to be euthanized.

charlabobParticipantThis is so sad and never easy. All the fur and human folk in the charlabob tribe extend our sympathy. (Katskys got extra treats in Sweetie’s memory last night.)

jwwsParticipanta favorite saying when we lost one of our beloved kids:
Animals never belong to us, they pass through our lives on journeys of their own. They ask no more of us than that we love them and let them go on in dignity and peace.
Animals come and go with lessons to learn and lessons to teach. So, we love them and learn. We accept the pain of their going as we received the joy of their coming. All of it is a blessing.
With condolences for your loss

JayDeeParticipantI am sorry for you all. I have two bonded rescue cat sisters rooming with me presently, and I honestly dread the day when I have but one when her sister can no longer chase her.
You kept Sweetie and loved her and that is all we can do. Take care.

4th of EightParticipantThankyou for sharing Sweetie and for adopting an adult from a shelter.. Awesome! She had such a pretty torti face and I assume the torti purrsonality that went along with that breed. She will be watching over you(next to the computer?!!)

annaeileenParticipantI am so sorry to hear of Sweetie’s passing; it’s never easy. I adopted an adult cat from the Seattle Animal Shelter as well. Adult cats make the best pets but we do get a little less time with them.

elisabethfMemberI am sure Sweetie was a very lucky cat to have lived with you! I am sure she had a very good life with you folks as her humans.

goodgracesParticipantWhat a sweet creature, and it sounds like you were wonderful caregivers and that she felt very loved. I’m so sorry for your loss but really happy to hear that she had such a great life with you. Also grateful that she was able to pass peacefully and on her own — that is such a gift.
