pattileaParticipantWhat would you do if you went out to eat and got dirty silverware not once but twice? We went out to eat and I got a seriously bent fork so I asked for another, and it had dried food. Then my honey also got a dirty fork.
There was no one claiming to be in charge, but our waiter said he had the silverware pulled and checked for cleanliness. I normally would have left but it was about 7:30 and our young boy was so hungry. The waiter offered us 20% off, or free dessert. We didn’t want free food we wanted cleanliness, the restraint appeared clean. This was our first time eating there, and I really doubt if we will again. I am going to call this morning and try and talk with a manager.
I am just curious what our people would do?

AJPParticipantI used to work in catering. If the silverware wasn’t run through the dishwasher properly, it could have food stuck to it, but still be “clean”. Those dishwashers are very, very hot. Not saying you should use it, and you were right to bring it to your waiter’s attention. Sounds like your waiter really tried to be helpful, especially if there didn’t seem to be a manager on-hand. I would call and talk to a manager, and if they are nice about it and seem eager to resolve the issue, then I would give the place a second chance. But if they’re jerks about it, I wouldn’t.

pattileaParticipantI called the owner 4 times before I got an answer. At this time he didn’t seem to care. He made up excuses quickly instead of a future solution!

JTBParticipantGiven the owner’s reaction, I’d move on.

sbreParticipantMy paternal-grandmother (the germaphobe) who passed away about 12 years ago used to bring silverware from home for all who would be sitting at the table with her, and we couldn’t sit down until she had wiped-down all the seats.
But now we are all comforted knowing that when we get to heaven we’ll have a clean place to sit!!
