I don't want to try and cook so...will there be any restaurants open on Thanksgiving and/or Christmas in West Seattle?

    If not then maybe downtown?

    Thanks!

A couple of years ago my family had Thanksgiving at Salty's. It was good, not spectacular, but good.

The Homestead has been open on Thanksgiving before, but I can't confirm that for this year ... haven't thought that far ahead yet! Christmas might be a tougher gig, but I think Met Market had a dinner you could order in advance last year for pick up.

PCC also has order ahead dinners. We did their Thanksgiving last year and it was pretty good-not great-but good.

We took my parents visiting from Florida down to the Salty's at Redondo Beach (much better than W. Seattle IMO). The food was great and my parents loved it.

I hear the Four Seasons has a marvelous brunch too.

  7. The Fisherman Restaurant at Pier 57 has a family style dinner...They bring a whole turkey to your table, taters, veggies, stuffing , gravy, rolls, cranberry sauce. I think salad, too. The more people you have the more turkeys you get, etc. and they wrap up the leftovers inc. the turkey, and send it home with you. Oh, yes, pie, too. It's fun...not gourmet great, but good..and you definitely leave full.

  10. actually, there is always a free meal at Fauntleroy Hall on Thanksgiving for the community...sponsored by Tuxedos and Tennis Shoes Catering...they work out of the hall...and it's a nice sit down meal with the neighbors, table cloths, people waiting on you, yummy dessert table..I've been a few times...it's definitely an alternative...

  11. and, el grego...the food is really good...the hall is just up the hill from Endolyne Joe's...across from Fauntleroy UCC church

  12. My husband and I went to the free meal at the Fauntleroy Hall last year, the one Jan's talking about, after our plans fell through at the last minute and we had nowhere to go. The dinner was really wonderful and they so incredibly nice. There were singles there, couples and families. Definitely not a soup-kitchen vibe, although some people do come off the street for the meal. Volunteers will come talk with you if you like, or will leave you alone if that's your preference, and they'll keep bringing refills until you've had enough. It was nice to feel so welcomed. Best of all, it was free. :)

  14. Just curious for the folks who ate at the Fauntleroy Hall, when did you give back to the community and volunteer your time for your free meal?

  15. Most (never say all) hotels have full t-day meals, but as many have advised, make reservations and confirm them. As a cautionary note you may want to ask up front how long they allow any party to linger after their meal. We spent one t-day waiting two hours at the Edgewater for our table to be vacated.

  16. @bark: iirc, there was a donation jar available if attendees preferred to give back in that way.

  17. Bark, I didn't go to Fauntleroy Hall last year but my friend did and I know for a fact that she does give back to the church and her community.

  18. Bark, your comment did not come across as curiosity, more as accusation.

Charity is just that, giving without the expectation of repayment.

  19. Bark....if you talk to David and David, the owners of Tuxedos, they'll tell you that this is simply a thank-you to the community for continuing to support them. They are very nice, generous men, the office staff is exemplary, the chefs are terrific. Now, to the point...you want specifics? I know more than one person on this blog who have volunteered to help their fellow community members..whether it's someone being firebombed out of their shop, or a fundraiser for the food bank. Were you there helping us? I don't remember you. We don't have to list what we do for your sake....but know that this is a wonderful community, with many wonderful, giving people in it. The suggestion by you that everyone who partakes of the meal at Fauntleroy Hall is a freeloader is simply insulting.

Jan, you captured T&TS and their intentions perfectly.

  21. GHO...I will confess. The daughter used to work in their office, and I have done chair massage for the crew at Christmas in the past. The owners paid for it, and the kitchen and office people were very appreciative. Yes, they are extremely nice people.
