WilmaParticipantThis morning was the second time this week I have almost been hit by someone running a red light.
The first time I was turning west onto SW Thistle St from 35th. My turn light turned green as I started through the intersection I heard a car laying on it’s horn. It was the car behind me trying to get my attention or the red light running cars attention. I looked in my rear view mirror and saw a car fly by behind me heading south. The car did not break even slightly. I had my two dog in the car and I know if that car hit me my dogs would not have lived through it.
The second time was this morning. I was turning on to Fauntleroy heading south by Starbucks and the West Seattle Brewery. I was stopped waiting for the light, it turned green and I proceeded through the intersection, as I was going through out of the corner of my eye I see a car coming at me going pretty fast. She never hit her brakes or swerved to miss me but I was close enough to look her in the eye. My heart is still pounding.
I have learned my lesson. I should have been more observant and noticed these cars. From now on I will be more cautious through intersections. This is my wake up call.
I know we are all tired and preoccupied. West Seattle’s population is growing everyday. Please be careful and patient out there. We all want to get to where we are going in one piece.

mehud7ParticipantWilma, Same thing happened to me this week. I had a green light to turn from Trenton to 35th and a black Mercedes blew through the light heading north on 35th. Worse yet, he was on his phone with his 7 year old boy in the backseat. If I had hit him I probably would have been killed (I drive a small car) and I could have killed his son who was in the back seat on the passenger’s side. I caught up to the car at the next light at 35th and Thistle and told him that he had run a red light. He told me he was aware of that. When I reminded him that he was also on his phone with a small child in the car, he told me to “mind my own f-ing business.” Poor child. Black Mercedes turned west on SW Monroe St. I have learned to always assume that someone will not stop at a light or stop sign. A man was killed by a red light runner at my intersection near Burien just two weeks ago. He was ejected from the car so must not have had a seat belt on…
