Does anyone have a company or two they can recommend for these services?

I cringe every time I hear the term "tree trimming". Trees are not trimmed like shrubs; usually, they need no trimming at all except to remove dead or damaged branches and to improve shape. You can't trim a tree to keep it small; the tree will suffer and probably look awful as well. Right plant, right place - that's the arborist's (gardener's) mantra!

Most mow & blow landscapers will be happy to "trim" your tree for you, but please, please, don't do it. Most lawn care outfits are in no way trained to prune trees, although many will claim to be. A few good arborists in the area are:

    Mark Harmon, Stonehedge
Kathy Holzer, Out on a Limb
    Bill Wanless

I've heard good things about an arborist's firm called "Blooma" but have no personal experience with them.

It's OK to skimp on lawn care, but damage done to a tree is mostly irreversible and can be very costly. I would strongly recommend that you use different contractors for these services.

  4. I highly recommend Stonehedge. Mark is a very talented and you can't go wrong using them.

  5. Greg at West Seattle Lawn and Tree, 938-8381. It might take a couple of days for him to call you back, but I've used him for 10 years. Reasonable rates. His tree guy Joe is a thoughtful pruner.
