sean102ParticipantSimply put: everything was great. Unique flavors in unexpected dishes and definitely a cut above the pub fare I was expecting.

JanSParticipantlove their mac and cheese…

kayoParticipantMy husband and I have decided that their chocolate soufflé is one of the best desserts we’ve ever had and even after trying much more expensive versions elsewhere. It is all we can do to just order one and share it. Everything on the menu is great and I love the low key vibe.

JayDeeParticipantA friend of mine from Long Beach simply adores West 5. We’ve eaten brunch and drank many a cocktail in the convivial atmosphere of the place. I’ve walked here in a snowstorm from Alki when stuck at home too long. The food is indeed comfort food, but once in a while, worth the workout.

mark47nParticipantTHis is my usual local watering hole. I love it and their staff. Just thinking about it makes me want a Manny’s and a Reuben.

sam-cParticipantyes, their mac n cheese is awesome. however, after I eat it, I feel like I’m gonna have a heart attack. I don’t order my own serving anymore, I get one for the kid and finish it off when he’s done eating.

gmabettyParticipantI love their rubens and the meatloaf sandwiches. I tell everybody about them.

anonymous123ParticipantMy West 5 favorites are their mac n cheese, BLT (they put so much bacon!!), turkey and swiss sandwich, and the meatloaf sandwich. Makes me wish I worked in West Seattle so I could grab lunch there.

JanSParticipantsam-c..are you saying you can almost heart those heart valves slamming shut?
December 18, 2013 at 1:44 am #801570
SonomaParticipantI don’t always eat mac ‘n’ cheese, but when I do, I prefer West 5. Stay hungry, my friends.
P.S. I tried the mac ‘n’ cheese from a well-known place at the Pike Place Market the other day. It was awful. Even though it was freshly made, the sauce was thin and runny, the cheese too salty, the macaroni overcooked.

sam-cParticipantlove that meme (isn’t that what they’re called?)
Jan- I don’t know if I can feel my heart valves closing, but maybe that is because it is beating so fast they are just forced open by all the traffic!
December 18, 2013 at 9:22 pm #801575
SueParticipantI’m trying to figure out how it is that I’ve never been in there. Thoughts of this mac & cheese are making me rethink this oversight.
December 18, 2013 at 10:09 pm #801576
miwsParticipantsam-c, Yep! That’s what they’re called, pronounced “meem”.
I’m having the dangedest time with that, because I always want to pronounce it “me-me”

WalkerParticipantLove West 5. The owners are also amazing folks.

JanSParticipant@Sue….mac and cheese, and a drink called blueberry tea. Yes, it has alcohol, and it’s warm, and it tastes like blueberries….and it’s yummy…

metrognomeParticipant‘Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose’ loosely translates to ‘The more things change, the more memes miws will choose.’ ‘Miws’ is really a French word meaning ‘the creative one’; while it does not formally appear in the above sentence, it is understood to be there as ‘the creative one’ is everywhere. It is often translated phonetically to ‘Muse’ and also to ‘amuse’ or ‘amusing’. In Olde English, it is spelled ‘mews’ and has three meanings: 1) the sounds a kitten makes; 2) a secret place or hideaway; and 3) a group of buildings originally used as stables. Obviously, cats hid in stables to have their kittens; in referencing West 5, the second definition applies. Thus, the meme created by miws was amusing in that it referred to a favorite mews for muses to hang out and eat mac and cheese. QED.

miwsParticipantmetrognome, if I had started reading your comment about 3 seconds earlier, I would have ended up with coffee all over my screen and keyboard! :-D
