RAVE - Sublime quiet

  1. As much as I empathize with the trouble all of this snow has caused for everyone, I must say that I adore how quiet it has been since the snow arrived.

It has been so peaceful out there, especially at night. I can't say I have heard one boom-box car or loud-pipe motorcycle roar down the hill past my house near Oregon. And the thick blanket of snow produces the best outdoor acoustics I have ever experienced.

I have a friend who lives on Fauntleroy and who has to sleep with earplugs because of the constant roar of traffic at all hours. But not the last few nights.

For me the silence is definitely way up there on the list of positive aspects of this rare snowfall.

CJ - funny, I was just standing out back with the dog and I have a clear view all the way to Vashon. I was thinking how quiet it is - nothing but a few unfrozen drops of water dripping. Silence is golden:)

  5. CJB: I 100% agree. The quiet is so peaceful and lovely. My parents' house in Everett is quiet like this all the time. But who wants to live in Everett??

    I'm loving the quiet.

  6. I really think the effect the constant background city noise has on us is probably worse than we realize. I suspect it contributes to very slight elevations in stress. We don't realize it until it goes away, but I'll bet we do pay for it. I do think it's worth pushing for quieter cities--one reason I keep badgering Metro about noisy buses.

Silence is a common good; we should protect it.

All quiet except for the CRUNCH CRUNCH of pilgrims headed to the store, one big dog barking, and a few birds chattering about where to find a meal. Only the UPS truck coming to remind us where we really are.

  8. Today i have an empty house in addition to the snow dampened streets.

pups are napping.. hubby is working.. no house guests.

only the hum of the refrigerator and the clicking of the keys to keep me company.

    bliss....

i love it when my thoughts are louder than the outside noise...

And the air smells cleaner, too.
