Rave-SPD busting bus lane violators

I would like to thank the SPD for pulling over(even if it added a few snarls to traffic for a little while) the gentleman in the white truck this morning who felt that his commute was more important than everyone else who was trying to make it over the bridge.

The bus lane is for the buses, not for the super-urgent-caffeine-laced driver who feels like they should get priority and speed ahead of all the other drivers who are stuck in the same crap traffic.

Maybe I am a stickler for the rules and feel personally cheated when someone goes into the bus lane to jump ahead of the rest, but come on. If you are running late, then next time get up earlier.

So thanks SPD, and I welcome ticketing those bus lane entitled folks who piss off the rule followers.

  2. So glad to hear that SPD is enforcing that! I'm on the bridge around 7:30 am and have never seen police pulling violators over.

I'm glad to see the police do their job too. Its frustrating to be on a bus and stuck behind someone who is errantly using the bus lane.
Also, I think the OP makes too many suppositions:
    "Gentleman"
"who felt that his commute was more important than everyone else"
"the super-urgent-caffeine-laced driver who feels like they should get priority and speed ahead of all the other drivers"
    Be happy.

Flower petal, I was on a bus, looked down and saw a coffee cup being held by a man in a white truck who was stopped by the police car. I was able to see all this since we were moving at a snails pace since the bus lane was blocked.

I guess I did assume this man was on his way to work since it was 8:30am, but maybe he was in a hurry for a totally different reason, and I shouldn't jump to conclusions.

I take it back. Glad the SPD are ticketing anyone, regardless of their gender, drink preference, employment status and mood, who use the bus lane.
    Cheers.

I think the only erroneous assumption was that he was a gentleman.

  7. I have nothing to add to this thread other than nice screen name: BBG! How many days did you spend thinking up that one? Just think of all the cool screen names you think up during your extra 15-20 minutes commuting daily!!

actually, BBG, the bus-only lane on the WS Bridge was added by removing the shoulder; seems like pretty smart civil engineering to me.

Do you have any practical solutions to offer?

  9. BBG, please elaborate on your thoughts on smart Civil engineering...

Man, I missed BBG's comments, I am so intrigued now... that is what I get for not getting on the blog between last night and this morning. lesson learned.

I almost posted an explanation last night ... BBG's posts were flagged and removed by TR because of his screen name, not because of what he said in his posts. He posted the same rants about traffic and bicycles in 3 threads, incl. one that he resurrected from the archives.

Obviously, I can't repeat his screen name, but it had to do with people who use two-wheeled human-powered mobility devices that some people perceive as interferring with the natural flow of automobile vehicular traffic performing services of an extremely personal nature on a barnyard animal. Gee, I guess working for the government had its advantages, obfuscation-wise.

  13. Ah, I think I get it, metrognome!

    Thanks for the explanation!

  14. There were also personal insults in his posts, which is always grounds for post removal.

Ahh I get it now. That isn't very nice.

On topic though, this morning on the bridge we were really slow moving and I didn't think anything of it until I saw 99 was moving nicely. Then when I got to the bottom and had a red car zoom all the way down in the bus lane and cut over at the last minute I realized what the issue was. SPD!!
Out of their cars, pulling violators over by pointing and signaling them to pull out of traffic and then allowing them back in post ticket.
Very sneaky spot, no flashing lights, no hoopla, just a simple "you, pull over here".
    Thank you!!

That was brilliant this morning - five or six cops just stepping out and waving people over to issue tickets. My favorite was watching a car tailgate a bus as far as the 99 exit, and when the bus merged over, there was a cop just waiting for him.
