   Authentic Sichuan cuisine, especially if you order from the "Country Side Taste" section at the back of the menu. I've only been once, but it reminded me of 7 Stars Pepper on S Jackson, only with better prices. In fact the owner says she and her chef used to work there.

   It's at 14400 Ambaum in a strip mall near the DQ and across from Huckleberry Square. OK, so it's not exactly West Seattle, but it can be closer than Chinatown for a lot of readers. Besides, their free 5 mile delivery area stretches into Arbor Heights, Highland Park and Westwood. Their number is 206-241-2679.

   Wethead, I'm a sucker for authentic Szechuan food, so thanks for the recommendation! I will have to try it out soon.

   Have you tried their Gong Bao Ji Ding? How is it? What other Szechuan dishes have you tried?

   I didn't try the Gong Bao Ji Ding (Kung Pao Chicken for the uninitiated readers). My wife makes that for me at home (she's Chinese), so I wanted to try some things I wasn't as familiar with. We ordered the Boiled Fish in Hot Sauce, Spicy Dried Bean Curd with Peanuts, Smoking Pork with Hot Pepper, and Garlic String Bean. I wasn't familiar with the Smoking Pork. It seemed a little dull compared to the others. Really liked the fish. The tofu dish is a cold dish. The string beans added some tasty greens.

   How was the boiled fish compared to Sichuanese Cuisine at 12th and Jackson? I'll make the trip via Metro bus if it sounds worthwhile. Did you see if they they have homemade dumplings in hot oil? Either way, glad to hear of this place.

   Haven't had the boiled fish dish since I lived in China. Tasted good to me.

   Sorry I don't know more. It was only one meal, but worth commenting on since there are so few good Chinese restaurants around. I'm sure we'll be returning soon, but until then, hopefully some other people out there can give it a try and report back. Wish I lived in the free delivery area.

   darn, looks like Morgan Junction is a ways outside their delivery area. May have to make a trip to Burien.

   datamuse -- every time I see your avatar, I think of Cheryl Wheeler's brilliant song, 'Unworthy.' The album it appears on, 'Sylvia Hotel,' is one of the best I've ever heard. 'Meow' and 'Potato' are also funny while many of the other songs are very evocative; interesting mix.

    Better ask about the free delivery area. Home page says 3 miles, but the order form says 5. The menu flyer says 5. Minimum order of $15 is consistently stated.

    I wish they included Morgan Junction too, then I'd be set.

    JoB--Better keep the DQ in mind in case you need something to put out the pepper fires.

    Julie--If "Freed Rice" cracks you up, try Googling "Chinese Menu Mistakes". There appears to be a whole section of the internet devoted to them. But before you look at the answers, guess what could go wrong with these:

    Went there today for lunch (cause we figured Mother's Day would not be a good day for spontaneous brunch plans) and it was FABULOUS! Totally yummy. I would highly recommend it!

    Had a second dinner. Just as good as the first.

    Tried the Gong Bao Ji Ding (Kung Pao Chicken) this time. If you want it Chinese style, be sure to tell the waiter. The Chinese style has a very strong dose of Sichuan black pepper, also known as flower pepper. Numbs the mouth and adds a flavor I can't quite describe. Authentic and good.

    Also had Sliced Beef in Hot Oil, Szechuan Soft Tofu, and Black Mushroom with Baby Bok Choy. All very tasty.

    Wethead - we can't thank you enough for posting the review. I've been longing for Moo Shu pork for some time. We ordered for lunch today and just finished. IT WAS FANTASTIC. Everything we ordered was fantastic. And delivery to White Center on top of all that - we just couldn't be happier. Two thumbs up !!

    Thanks for the rave, Wethead. What a find! I had lunch here today and it was great. I scout for hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurants, especially Szechuan places and I thought the food, service and atmosphere here were quite good. I ordered from the "Country Side Taste" menu. Szechuan Hot Sauce Won Ton was a nice little app of delicate simmered pork won tons (handmade I'm sure) in a spicy red oil with garlic and green onions. I developed a taste for Szechuan Cold Noodles in NYC, and these are the best I've had in Seattle. Excellent on a hot day. Total, including a coke: $11.46. Thanks again for putting the word out.
