Tried them for the first time today. FANTASTIC BBQ.... My wife had the ribs and I had the quarter chicken. VERY good stuff. I tend to like my food spicy and thought I might try the 'hot' version but a customer in front of me made me think the 'medium' might be enough. He ordered his meal with the 'hot' sauce and the cashier paused for a minute before asking very slowly, "Are you SURE?".

The medium ended up being plenty spicy for me. Next time I might even go with the mild. My wife is a spice wimp and had no problem with the mild sauce so they can clearly soften the blow or let you hurt yourself if that's your choice.

The meat was perfect. It was almost difficult to get a bite on a fork because it was so tender and falling apart.

From the crowd in the lobby it looks like they will be here for a while.

    I hope so....

As a big fan of pork ribs I must add to this rave for Jones BBQ. AMAZING! The ribs were smoky, moist, meaty, tender and the sauce was
F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C! Flavorful with just the right amount of spice. They were delicious and I will be back! What a great addition to West Seattle. I said it to my ribs and say it now to Jones BBQ, "Welcome HOME!"

....And if they start serving squirrel-kabobs or chupacabra brisket I think I'll pitch a tent out front and just live there....

Mom and I had the half chicken with two sides and it was great. My only complaint was that we tried the peach cobbler and it wasn't think enough in the sauce for the fruit. We will try a slice of sweet potato pie next time.

It was a bit of a wait, due to fairly long lines, but the wait was worth it. Thumbs up to the brisket, the hot links and the collard greens. The food was being made on site (unlike the previous occupants of that space) and they had plenty of staff to prepare the food and handle the customers. Everyone was friendly and everything looked clean.

Word of note: they are a cash only joint right now. Come prepared.

Yep, every one of their restaurants since the first one has been a very clean and good-looking space. What is best is that their quality has remained the same. I still remember fondly their first location on ML King Way with the smoker and wood-pile backed up against the building, the kitchen/counter and entrance so tight and filled with humanity that it usually spilled out the door. Very much fit the deep-South BBQ shack stereotype. I literally stomped on my brakes and made a dangerous maneuver into the parking lot the first time I saw (and smelled) the place. They have since become rather familiar with my face, and my family has used them a couple of times for catering, which I highly recommend.

This is great! Jones BBQ, The Beer Junction, I'm working over here now, ALMOST no reason to leave. But then I get a craving for TACO TRUCK FOOD, which I apparently won't see along Fauntleroy in MY lifetime

Always loved this place since the first time. Glad they are in west Seattle. Wish they could find a way to warm up their meat without the microwave. Seems like a waste to go through all the trouble slow cooking that beautiful
Meat only to throw it in one of those rubberizers. That's right, I ordered The rib tip basket and the woman in back tossed them in a microwave after chopping them up. Not as tender as normal but delicious tasting none the less.

Microwaves are good for melting chocolate, warming the last cup of coffee in the french press, and disinfecting egg shells before they go in the worm bin.
Those are the only things I could think of.

Hey there's supposed to be a killer taco truck on Delridge by Home Depot. Just sayin'...

Ellenater, When, my husband has been trying to find one!
Dawsonct- I didn't know I was supposed to be microwaving my egg shells before throwing them in the worm bin! How long do they need to be in for?
Wasn't it Jone's BBQ that used to smoke turkeys for Thanksgiving?

Yeah, that taco truck is the best Mexican food in West Seattle...maybe the whole city.

  15. Garden_nymph...the taco truck is there a lot...by Tug Tavern - er..Inn..across from Home Depot on the way up to Highpoint.

Not overly impressed by the HD taco truck. I've been twice, the meat selection is limited (no lengua? No cabeza? No chivo? Why bother?), I'll give them another chance, but they don't hold a candle to Tacos Maestro on Pac. Highway S.
I COULD walk to the promised one on Fauntleroy, if Tacos Bravo EVER get their crap together.
    ---
Worms are susceptible to salmonella; eggs will occasionally carry salmonella. I've heard 2 minutes on high is enough, and my worms are very much alive and wriggling. I can't be positive they have anything to do with each other.
    ---
Cyril's Seattle Super Smoke used to be in the S. Lander location where Jones is now. I can still taste that dee-licious smoked turkey they would make.
I know Willy's Taste of Soul fries turkey, seems like I recall he also smokes them.

The taco truck Fondita on 15th in WC is to me, for some reason I don't know, better than the HD truck tacos
And then there's El Paisano's taco's. You can sit down inside if it's raining (often critical in decision making). They are just simple and so good. I highly recommend the carnitas and asada. OMG. $1.50 each?!? A little protein pick-me-up.
And have a glass of horchata to go with if the barrel is full.

    Uh oh.

    Controversy.

Now I've gone and done it.

    :]

What? We WERE talking about tacos, right? ;) Am I on the wrong thread again?

OK, back to the topic of Jones BBQ. I hope they are open tomorrow. All the talk has made me want MORE of their tasty ribs!

That's the prob both times PM, they didn't have the meats on the menu.
Aside from that, the spicing and salsas were rather ordinary. Acceptable in a pinch, but...
    ---
But JONES BBQ on the other hand, is MORE than acceptable ALWAYS!!!
Let's all resolve to eat at Jones at least once this month!
Vegetarians, get yourselves some sweet potato pie, or peach cobbler.

We went back today and I am happy to report, my ribs were as delicious as the first time! It's not a fluke folks, Jones BBQ makes great BBQ!
Dasonct- we're doing our best to keep them in business!

    Posted 1 year ago #
  23. Yum! Well that answers my questions of "Are they open today?" and "What's for dinner?"

    ---

Edit: Yes! Yum! Got the Tailgate Special with beans and potato salad. Fed our family of 3 with meat leftover. Nice sweet/tangy sauce and moist chicken and ribs!

  24. I finally got over to Jones BBQ in the Triangle today. And while it wasn't the best BBQ I've ever had, I guess I could co-sign the RAVE. Their BBQ could hold its own against any of the tin roof, sugar shacks where I've had BBQ across the South.

I decided to try the chicken and the brisket on this visit reserve the ribs for a future visit. This is definitely BBQ that is for sauce fans as there was no shortage of it. I went for the mild because I'm not really a caliente kinda dude. So heat lovers might rave about the sauce more than I will. But it did have a nice balance of savory and sweet with just enough smoke. The meat was really perfectly cooked, with that tender, falling-off-the-bone quality. The brisket especially was seasoned expertly. Usually when it comes to BBQ it is all about the meat but the sides were actually a nice surprise. The beans had a fresh taste and light color. The collards were especially good. Actually, I'd put them up there with some of the best I've had. They were out of cornbread so I didn't get to try that. And no hush puppies on the menu! What's up with that?! Also no fried okra at the West Seattle location which they really need to remedy. It would be a really nice touch to see sweet tea offered as well. I've heard of uneven service at some of the other Jones BBQ locations but I have to say that the young woman working the counter earlier this evening was a sweetheart. And she was really patient as I scrutinized the menu.

Definitely worth a trip back for the ribs. If they'd we willing to add anything from my wish list above I just might be in there all the time.

  26. This is so bizarre, it's like I went to the wrong place. Those were not the ribs I got. The ribs I got were burnt and mostly fat. The medium sauce had no spice and the hot had only some. The potato salad was good. I'll probably be back mostly because I live a short walk away, but those ribs were work.

  27. austin: Please note...that's brisket and chicken pictured. I didn't sample the ribs.

Thanks Jan. I'll do what I can. But I don't always have the patience to shoot images of the food when my instinct is just to scarf it down without delay.

Went last night and had the Combo Dinner ($18.95) with Brisket, Chicken, Beans, and Potato Salad. Definitely was enough food for two adults (and small child).

As for the meat, I'd say it was decent. Both meats were slightly dry. Sauce was of the thick and sugary type. I'm a bigger fan of the vinegar based BBQ sauces, but Jones' sauce is good for what it is. As for spice, not sure what people were thinking saying the medium packs a kick, our two year old was eating it with no problem (and he usually balks at the slightest inkling of heat). Will try the 'hot' sauce next time.

All in all, it was comparable to what I've had at other Jones around town. Dependable bbq, but nothing exceptional. If you're a meat person, more than a sauce person, I'd recommend the Pig Iron in Georgetown.

Pig Iron is awesome but way to pricey for what you get. I can't wait to try Jones. Had some in SODO months ago and was very satisfied.

VG, I would love to see someone set up a Carolina-style whole-hog pit BBQ around town. I like just about all the different styles of barbecue we have in our country, but that style is my favorite as well. I just happened to be at The Swinery on Tuesday when the counter man had his sandwich delivered to him; looks to be exactly what you and I are craving. I'll be going back soon to try one.

What? No one complaining that they don't have any vegetarian offerings? ;)

    Posted 1 year ago #
  36. Perhaps their sauce is vegetarian?

    Posted 1 year ago #
  37. What, no barbecued tofu? Why are they discriminating against the vegetarians? ;)

+1 RAVE for Jones. Yeah..parking is a pain, but the ribs can't be beat. I might agree with some that its a bit spendy...not all that much more than Brickyard, though. Both are great BBQ joints to have in the neighborhood.
    -
AND..people..I hereby nominate the Sweet Potato Pie as West Seattle's next "crack food' contestant.
    :)

    Posted 1 year ago #
  39. oh yeah...being from the South..I prefer my bbq NOT smothered in sauce. I like the sauce as an accent to accentuate the flavor of the meat, not swim in it. Just ask for it on the side..No problemo.

As far as price goes I think they are fair. The last time I went in it was slower so I had a chance to take my time with the order. My wife wanted the ribs (and some cheesecake)and I wanted to try some of the hot links. We really didn't want sides this trip.
They had an order for 3 ribs but I didn't think that would be enough. The counter girl worked with me and offered me a deal on 4 ribs with 2 hot links and a buy one get one free cheesecake (was not posted anywhere) for about 13 bucks.

When I got home I found that there was a 5th rib thrown in for nothing.

If you like the food or not, the service is great--

Tried the chicken and the ribs, as well as the potato salad and slaw at Jones. still prefer Pigiron by a looooong shot, both for the food and that it is truly "dine in" or take out. just wish they were open more often:(

  44. Had Jones tonight - great as usual! I can't fault them for what seems to be the hallmark of any BBQ place, but they were out of brisket and hot links by 6pm. I'm still partial to Willy's Taste of Soul in RB, but this scratched the itch and I'm glad they're in WS:)

Thank you for turning me on to Jones B-B-Que we had it tonight and I really enjoyed it. Tasted Yummy We went in about 5pm and it was not that busy got our food fast. I ordered the Rib dinner and there was alot of food. We are going back and I am trying the Brisket. Oh I thought the pricing was ok alittle over $14.00 for a one person dinner, that is the only thing that would keep me from eating it more

    Posted 1 year ago #
  46. I tried the ribs the first week they were open. It took along time to get my food at lunch time as a huge family ordered before me. But once I got home with my ribs I was blown away. Soooo good. Brick yard is also very good. But I gotta say the Jones might be a step up in taste as far as the ribs go. I also heard that the brisket is awesome.
