I was so totally impressed by the map Alice made for the road conditions! Alice, for the price of some good coffee, would you be willing to show people how you did that? Maybe one evening up at Uptown Espresso? Let us know...BTW, I sent a link to one of your later maps to the city emergency operations center, and they forwarded it on to their SDOT liaison person, so maybe you were helping get plows to the right places in West Seattle. Good Karma is yours....

I'll bet she would--but you might try offering tea instead of coffee!
Another way you could thank her is to support her employer, the Pacific Science Center http://pacsci.org --take what may be the only opportunity you'll ever have to see the real Lucy fossil before March. Or go to a planetarium show, or one of the Science with a Twist evening programs for adults....

Julie..
i will do my part to keep alice employed:)
i recently discovered that someone reads me regularly on this blog because i am tiffany's mom:)
it's an unexpected pleasure to have nerdy daughters who make us interesting just because we are their moms ;~)

Thanks, JoB! I must say I doubt you're uninteresting, even without your daughter!

julie..
i bet we are both pretty interesting all on our own.. i was just kinda tickled to find out someone was reading me just because she gets a kick out of the fact that i am tiffany's mom.
i am very proud of her.. as i am sure you are of alice... and can think of much worse things to be known for.

Wow, CB and JoB - thanks!
I would love to teach people to make these maps, especially for a cup of tea.
Maybe we can set up a "BYOL" (Bring Your Own Laptop) evening tutorial at some West Seattle coffee shop with free WiFi! (Any coffee shop owners want to volunteer to host?)
And yes, let me reiterate what my mom said - COME TO THE PACIFIC SCIENCE CENTER! As soon as this insane weather lifts, you're going to be dying to get out of the house - we've got room to play, places to expend large amounts of energy, and cool stuff for adults too (Oh man, the Lucy exhibit has a few of the most breathtaking sections I've ever seen).
This season is hitting us as hard as it's hitting everywhere else - and we need your support to stay open and awesome!
Thanks for the kudos, all!

Alice, thanks for the maps and the Lucy reminder. The husband needs to see it, and the Screemie is about ready for another visit. Keep warm!

I will also say thank you to Alice, it is REALLY helpful to know where it is bad and it is so awesome that you took the time to help everyone.
And on a different note, we went to the same high school (and had same graduating year)! Hi!

Did we really? Well, I've always said I'm "West Seattle for life!"
Maybe you can find me on Facebook - my full name is already posted in this blog.

Alice, I sent you a PM to work out time/location, but it might not have gotten to you (I'm still learning how to use PM), so here's my email to see if we can pick something that would work for folks for a session of Maps 101

CB Says: " Alice has graciously agreed to teach wannabe map makers how she did those maps during the snowstorm! TR has put this on the events page, but brief info is 1:00, Saturday Jan 17, Uptown Espresso (Junction location). Thank you Alice! "
And I wanted to let you know I'll be there, with bells on. Can't wait to meet you!
