Just spotted a falcon or other large hunting bird over our house on 20th, with a tether clearly attached to its leg. Hopefully somebody was just out flying their bird ... but if you've lost a falcon recently, that's where to start looking.

  2. If the falcon stays nearby, you might try contacting the Woodland Park Zoo or the Audubon.org to see if they know who might have lost it.

In 2003, Kenai, the Gyrfalcon from the Woodland Park Zoo, escaped & ended up in our neighborhood & in our yard. What a gorgeous bird! He spent a long time sitting on our fence & we noticed that he had a tether. Unfortunately, a large group of crows soon gathered & harrassed him until he flew away.

The Zoo staff recaptured him in Maple Valley a couple of days later, but meanwhile people were very worried. Even large birds that have been raised in captivity are vulnerable when they get loose & they may not be able to find their way back home on their own.
