RANT - Yield does not mean Merge or Cutting-Off - Does it?

Travelling from Delridge towards the lower bridge, there is a yield sign just before the gateway to the lower bridge. The Delridge traffic is expected to Yield to the traffic travelling from from the left and West Marginal Way SW (from the south to the north) respectively. Traffic travelling from West Marginal Way SW is also trying to gain entry to the lower bridge but for these driver there is a traffic light just prior to proceeding left to the lower bridge. This are where two things that happen here which really snarl traffic and makes for dangerous conditions.

    1. Drivers travelling from Delridge do not obey the Yield law (yes there is actually a Yield sign here - not a Merge sign). Rather, the race is on to cut-off traffic travelling from West Marginal Way SW. This traffic is trying to make a traffic signal.

    2. When travelling from West Marginal Way SW....because the Delridge traffic does not Yield, you have only about 4 or 5 car lengths of traffic that can proceed through the light without becoming an intersection blocker. Forget about it when there's a Semi in the mix, all bets are off.

SDOT - Maybe a traffic light is needed to control Delridge traffic to make for a smooth and safer flow?

This morning - Me travelling from West Marginal Way SW, the light turns green and I make my left hand turn to the lower bridge. As every morning, I pray that some nice Delridge driver will actually Yield to me, the right of way traveller at that moment.....but no. Today: You, black Saab, (with a license plate frame for Doggie Day Care) you don't even look much less slow or proceed with caution - just fly on through. Then to my wondering eyes, I notice that you are applying your make-up???? WHAT really? I was behind your vehicle all the way onto 99 and you were putting on your make-up - you are a very scary driver - So I filmed you to share with others.

Maybe it's time to move away from West Seattle and the ever increasing aggressiveness and lack of regard for your own and others safety.

  2. Wait... So you filmed her while you were DRIVING?
I would say you BOTH are scarey drivers. Your statement "lack of regard for your own and others safety" would apply to yourself as well...

Yeah, filming while driving is probably not the best choice.
That said, I know exactly what the OP is talking about and would encounter the same issue daily when I used to take that route to get downtown on my scooter (unfortunately with Alaskan Way and First all torn up, scoot commutes are no longer a safe option). Traffic turning from Marginal and Spokane onto the low bridge is always at the mercy of drivers coming from Delridge, most of whom do not yield. This does result in far fewer cars making it through the turn lights than would be possible if Delridge-originating traffic would merge correctly. There are plenty of points in that light cycle in which those drivers have no competition to get on the bridge, so this is not an issue of the Delridge drivers needing to push their way in or risk never getting on the bridge.

Brew I should have been specific that my camera is dash mounted and becomes operational at the push of a button. Just like a car radio.

(Might wanna provide an example where the driver isn't rolling through a stop sign ...)

*thinkin' if I wanna reply to the rant ... hmmmm*

(No, seriously, I'm way more fascinated in why someone would mount a camera on the dash ... I think the kids call that a "creeper" ... *lol*)

  7. Personally, I like it. If more people had this capability maybe people around here wouldn't so easily get away with all of these hit and runs.

PS: The Dude approves of the Creedence.
