Rant: West Seattle Appliance

I just had an extremely unpleasant customer experience after one of the appliance technicians from West Seattle Repair came to take a look at my washing machine.

He spent an hour and a half swearing under his breath, including a "what the hell is she doing" comment about me in the next room (my home office where I was trying to work) and my "piece of crap" machine. I never received an estimate for his work, and then he complained about the coupon I had from his company's web site.

It remains to be seen if the repair itself will hold. His last comment was not to trust my machine (I should say this is a relatively new washing machine that came with my townhouse), but I will choose another vendor in the future simply based on the customer interaction.

    It was horrible.

Call the store. First of all, the "rule of rants" is that you do that before you post the rant and second, this is SO unlike any experience I have ever had with them -- and we definitely have appliances that are more on the "piece of crap" end of the continuium. Really, call them. They may even be contracting out some support. In any case, they will want to know this.

  3. As Charlabob notes, rants MUST include how the problem was called to the attention of the manager/owner of the business. Please post how you have done this or we will have to pull the thread. This is clearly posted in the Rules Reminders on the main forum page. THANKS!

I sent an email to Seattle Appliance before I posted my rant using their customer feedback address. I have not heard back from them.

  5. I found a web site called "www.seattleappliancerepair.com", which boasts service "to all of Seattle County" and also links to property for sale in Bulgaria.

Where's the web site for the company you're dealing with?

It seems to me fleeceandfire that your original post is less than two hours old where you reported that you "just had an extremely unpleasant customer experience." And now you tell us that you used their customer feedback email address and have not heard back from them? Are you referring to West Seattle Appliance on Delridge? There number is 938-6290.
This is important to many of us who shop for appliances and repairs in West Seattle.

Yes, I am referring to West Seattle Appliance on Delridge. The number you listed is the same on the business card here.

This is my first experience with them and I was uncomfortable posting the technician's name but my issues were with him. I had no issues scheduling the appointment or in my interactions on the phone. As of yet, I have not heard back from my message listing my concerns.

My washer is still not working properly, however and I will need to have someone else come take a look.

I like the guys from Wiseman's.

Cool guys and they seem really honest.

  9. OP - I've gotten great repair service from Scott Wiseman -- while he is a brother to the Wiseman of Wiseman's Appliance, he is honest about the repairs he is making, and since he is a repairman, he knows which brands are better.

    Scott Wiseman's Appliance Service (206)937-5524.

The Wiseman's Appliance store (Separate business from Scott's) will match Home Despot's prices on all appliances, and will deliver and take away for free in West Seattle. The business is local, gives good service, and fixes any problems promptly. I bought 4 different appliances from them.

  10. I agree with JayDee about both Wiseman's Appliance Store and Scott Wiseman's Appliance Service. They're great people and will go out of their way to help you.

  11. Ditto on Scott Wiseman :)

  12. Have to chime in for Scott Wiseman! Over the past 7 years I've had Scott out several times for my rickety old washer, dryer and dishwasher. He does great, efficient work and is a total pleasure to deal with.

Oops -- I meant Wiseman's because that's what I think of when I think WS Appliance. :-) As Emily Latella said, "Never mind."

  14. One thing to note. Newer townhouses and condos often really do have appliances from the lowest bidder and installed by certified morons contracted by the builder. I have met some and the "warranty work" is usually done by morons who lost their certification.

American brand names from the past have been sold to multinationals and just like Brand Name Computer makers create special versions (POS) for Best Buy, appliance makers have been pressured for two decades to fill the low price end of the market with cheaper and cheaper "builders grade" devices.

After all the "warranty" you get with a condo or townhouse is usually worth the paper it is printed on and unless you are a lawyer, it is usually cheaper to replace the item.

I fix my own appliances since none of them are as complex as a computer and we live in a hub of appliance parts distribution.

No real arguments here on the quality of my washer - though it has worked for 4 years without a hitch. My rant was more about the technician and his poor attitude. He essentially muttered and swore for almost two hours, including throwing his cell phone down and slamming the wet dry vac around. My carpet was wet for a good 15 hours after he left and smelled like a sour mop because so much water from the wet dry vac was sprayed around (not from the washer).

No response from Seattle Appliance yet, but next time I will call Wiseman - or buy a better washer ;-)

  16. I can pipe in about WS Appliance as well, and yes, I spoke with them and voiced my complaints as well. I have a dryer that needs the vent cleaned (it's stackable and I am not comfortable taking the dryer apart to do this.) I was told I would get a call last Saturday morning letting me know what time a tech would come out. I never got a call so at about 11:00 I called to find out what was going on.

The woman I spoke with said the tech would be here at 1:00pm. By 1:30 there was still no tech, so I called again. Was told she would call me right back after she called the tech. I never got a call back, I left about three messages with no response and obviously no tech.

I got a call form a different woman Monday asking if anyone had shown up. After explaining what happened and how upset I was to have lost most of my Saturday was told that the owner would be out on Saturday (I work during the week) and I would be first on the list. I was also told I would be called between 9 and 9:30 am to give me a time.

Guess what? No call, I finally got a hold of someone at 11:00 and was told he should be out this afternoon which did not work for me as I already had stuff planned.

It just seems to me a bad way to run a business. I have left a message for Scott Wiseman as I see now I should have done in the beginning.

Blech, I hate complaining and like to give the benefit of the doubt but this is twice now and form what I have seen on Yelp seems to be SOP.

For those in need of reliable and considerate appliance repair, I can attest to TWO great experiences with Mr. Appliance. The first visit was to repair damage done to our refrigerator by a GE recommended service provider. Mr. Appliance assessed the damage, reported to GE on the extent of the botched job, and got our refrigerator door wholly replaced at no charge to us.

The second visit was a simple teaching session regarding changing water filters. Though I had scheduled a check up on my washer and dryer, they were hesitant to look them over if I was having no trouble with them. They gave me some tips on vent cleaning and correct amounts of soap for appliance longevity, and said they'd rather not charge me for a service (x2) that I didn't need.

    We HIGHLY recommend Mr. Appliance.

Oh, Scott Wiseman came to our place regarding the refrigerator issue, too. He kindly wrote up an evaluation of the damage done previously. Door hinge damage was not a specialty of his, so he did not feel qualified to take the job (not an appliance issue so much as a mechanics issue). He didn't charge for the write up, though was appropriate when I suggested that I really ought pay for his time, and he accepted a nominal fee.

Just an update. West Seattle Appliance never returned my call or emails.

After six months of putting up with the jet engine sound of my washing machine I called Scott Wiseman who fixed the "problem" West Seattle Appliance left behind of not tightening any of the screws holding the pump in place. Voila. Fixed.

So my rant was never repaired for West Seattle Appliance but a new rave goes out to Scott Wiseman. Thanks for the recommendations!

  20. And Mark Wiseman just came out and fixed our gas oven. He is great too! Scott does electrical, Mark does gas. 6 kids in the family. All but one brother is technical - I think they tease that one mercilessly, LOL!

Scott and Mark are great, helped us out a time or too. I went to school with Scott, a really nice guy.

  22. I can highly recommend Wiseman's too. Have used them once before, they came highly recommended by my contractor (Bracepoint Carpentry, LLC) who are also local WS "boys". Honest, thorough and reasonable cost. Wouldn't call anyone else for appliance repair in West Seattle.
