Great place but there is just a HUGE complaint against the deli, well two acutally. I don\'t know how many times I\'ve been kicked out or not even let in because they are closed. There are a lot of kids working, have any of them told management how many people still want Ice Cream after 7pm on a Sunday? Goodness! 7pm! Baskin Robbins is open until 10pm. Please Mr. and Mrs. Deli, stay open longer, especially in the summer...makes no sense to keep the ice cream for yourselves!

RANT: Husky Deli

While were on a rant with Husky, I think there sandwhiches are way overpriced and not that good to be honest with you. But yeah.. Husky ice cream is da bomb.

Husky Deli is owned and operated by the Miller family. Smart business owners know that they must keep a constant management presence at the store. They also know when MOST people stop shopping and staying open is a push at best. But most importantly, people who own businesses have a right to live a quality life--not to stay open late in case one of us needs something.
Not trying to be harsh, I just believe that Husky Deli is what it is--and that is one of the best things about West Seattle.

Yeah, 7 is pretty early to close for summer.
Never had a sandwich there, but can I give a
little rave for their Spumoni? Yummalicious.Posted 4 years ago # -
Well, I\'ve always thought their sandwiches are delicious and reasonably priced. They seem to have plenty of lunchtime customers, so I guess I\'m not the only one.
The Mocha ice cream is wonderful!

Licorice....:)

All this Ice cream talk is going to make me...
Scream for more Ice CREAM!

Husky\'s has been one of my WS favorites for many decades. I know that businesses need to please their customers and make them happy. On the other hand it is a private business and has been super successful for more years than most WS\'rs have been alive. If they want to close at 7, be forewarned the next time and get there on time. I don\'t think you\'d hurt anyone\'s feelings if you couldn\'t get over it and go somewhere else.

I was tickled to see that Ben & Jerry\'s did no harm to Husky Deli\'s ice cream sales. And in fact B&J did not last long up the street. I\'m not sure if this is accurate but our household has mused that West Seattle residents were fiercely loyal to Husky and B&J couldn\'t make an inroad in the Junction.
Posted 4 years ago # -
It\'s very true. B & J\'s does well in Kirkland, and Ballard and seems like a no-brainer for the Junction. Only reason it didn\'t make it, was the ice cream shop right across the street that everyone went to...

I love Husky Deli!
They stock Cadbury biscuits (cookies) that you can normally only get in England/Ireland.
And they stock Jaffa Cakes.
They are the type of locally owned business we should all embrace if we want to keep the WS feeling alive. Stop in as often as you can and try to buy something.
Posted 4 years ago # -
I go in just to scope out the cute girls that work there. I usually buy a scoup of ice cream once inside though....lol
Posted 4 years ago # -
jimmy: you can get cadbury pretty much anywhere in canada. commonwealth and all that.
Posted 4 years ago # -
Don\'t even need to go as far as Canada, just to World Market/Cost Plus. Huge selection of British bisquits and sweets. Not a huge markup in price. Nearest one is out by Southcenter.

What are Jaffa Cakes?

Okay, I love Husky Deli. I love their ice cream, I love their sandwiches, I love their raspberry filled homemade scones that are incredibly yummy, and Jack is probably the nicest close talker in West Seattle...but, the place needs a clean bathroom, a good dusting and new floors. There, I said it, it\'s time for sprucing up the place, IMHO.
I\'ve never had an issue with the hours of operation, works fine for me. Husky Deli is the essence of West Seattle. Jack and his family are so generous with our schools, local charities and sports teams. I don\'t think I\'ve ever been to a fundraiser where something wasn\'t donated by Husky Deli.

Gina- isn\'t there one down on Western still??
Posted 4 years ago # -
JenV-yes, there is. http://www.worldmarket.com/custserv/store_locator.I try to avoid the downtown area on my days off. Southcenter trip can be combined with a visit to Trader Joe\'s.
And I still haven\'t made it over to PFI!
Posted 4 years ago # -
Gina, I finally made it to PFI, almost went right past the place. Pretty good prices, great selection of import type items, and definitely nice because of no frills.
Posted 4 years ago # -
vincent, quite different line of Cadbury products carried in Canada versus what you can get in Ireland. (Specifically Choco Hoops.)
As to Cost Plus-why would I go to Southcenter when Husky Deli carries my treats from abroad? Another reason I like WS and Husky, it\'s all right here in my \'hood.
Posted 4 years ago # -
Oh, and Jaffa Cakes are biscuits with orange jam filling and a coating of chocolate. Quite good with a cuppa.
Posted 4 years ago # -
I love Husky Deli and I love their sandwiches. 7pm is pretty early but I guess they need to close sometime and it is their store.
Posted 4 years ago # -
According to Citysearch.com, Sunday is the only night Husky Deli closes at 7pm. They are open until 9pm every other night of the week. That sure sounds reasonable to me!
Posted 4 years ago # -
Because Cost Plus has Smarties and Aero bars and Curley Wurleys and Malteasers and Lion bars and KitKats and wine gums. Especially the Smarties. They must come in a tube.
Posted 4 years ago # -
Yum--AERO bars!
I like the Husky Deli for ice cream and candy. I buy lots of foodie-type gifts and stocking stuffers there.
It feels like a piece of old West Seattle, which is disappearing before our eyes.
Posted 4 years ago # -
The great thing about Cost Plus on Western is that they have parking under the building that they validate. Then you can also go to the Pike Place Market just a short block south.
Posted 4 years ago # -
The other great thing is that you can take the water taxi over and not have to park at all!
Posted 4 years ago # -
Austin!!!!
I forgot about the water taxi!!!! Doh! Not having to park in the market is too much to resist. I haven\'t taken the taxi yet, but now I will for sure. Woo Hoo!!
Posted 4 years ago # -
consider yourself lucky they are open on THE LORDS DAY!!!
yay for secular businesses!
Posted 4 years ago # -
It seems A LOT of businesses in West Seattle are closed or close really early on Sundays. I sleep late on Sunday, guys...where\'s a girl to eat her lazy late dinner? Is everyone too tired from church? :)

missaudreyhorne
If ya\' have a taste for Lee\'s fine Asian fusion, I think they are open a bit later than some other places on a Sunday.
And now there is the new Olympia Pizza on Delridge - they deliver! Can\'t get any lazier than that, I don\'t think. ;)
I stopped in their last week - HUMONGOUS 1/2 salads like you wouldn\'t believe. But, they have a huge selection of greek/italian food if you have a need for carbs. :) They have a website. It was on the WSB front page last week.
Posted 4 years ago # -
Even God himself said he would go for a scoop of ice cream at Husky if they were opened later on Sunday because after all, he works all day Sunday, and at the end of his day, he\'s craving for some good homemade Husky chocolate. But then again, I\'m Agnostic so what do I know.
Posted 4 years ago # -
westseattledood...any idea how far Oly P and P will deliver?
