I got a parking ticket for the first time in a year or so and today I went online to pay it. At the very end of the process it tells me that it has added a $3 "convenience fee" for using the web. Had I known, I would've sent them a check and let them handle the processing. It would cost them a few bucks but save me the expense. I am pissed. I don't think $39 is a reasonable fee and adding on another $3 is just adding insult to injury.

Only $39? Last time I got a parking ticket it was $45.

I've paid my husband's tickets online before and didn't have the fee. Must be something new. They are probably trying to recoup their costs from people using credit cards.

ummm ... seems pretty clear on this screen that there is a "$3 convenience fee"; I couldn't get to the 'pay ticket' option without landing on this page first:
http://www.seattle.gov/courts/Ticket/ticketinformation.htm
it was also mentioned on the Muni Court home page.
and, technically, you didn't follow the Rant rules by contacting the city and posting their response.

here is the Municipal Code section on fees for payments by credit and debit cards and other electronic payments. The fee is charged to offset the charges imposed by banks for e-payments so that the rest of the taxpayers aren't paying for this 'convenience.'

It is posted un the text above the payment along with a number of other items on the page. I did not see it and I think standard practice is to make it clear before it is charged
If it costs them $3 per truncation, they are getting ripped off. How much is it to process a cHeck mailed to them?

Considering posting, depositing, returns and collections checks are expensive, what they are charging for electronic is reasonalbe...how much does it cost to take cash out of the ATM?

Funny thing is if you go in person and pay by credit card there is no additional fee.
