VanessaParticipantYears ago, we trapped them and relocated them to parks, even released them miles away. They seemed to just come back “home”. Perhaps others just moved into open territory. But I am turning into the crazy lady with the garden hose, trying to keep them off of the deck. They have eaten all the new figs off the tree, they dig into the flower pots and and make a huge mess. Any suggestions? Is it illegal to kill them? I actually don’t think I could to that to any creature. But I do have evil thoughts about them.

vogelParticipantI think if you get rid of the flower pots, cut down the trees and pave over your lot, that seems to be pretty effective. But if you choose to be surrounded by the beauty of nature, well, you’ll be surrounded by the beauty of nature.
Then again, I kind of like the squirrels and would be sad not to see them. It does sound like you’ve got a squirrel welcome sign in the form of the fig tree, though.

jwwsParticipantMaybe something along these lines will help with tree, bird netting around planters or Vaseline?

mehud7ParticipantVanessa, Sorry about your panties, whoops, I mean pansies. My sister bought fox urine online to keep the squirrels out of her garden.

PLSParticipantWell, I can understand the OP’s concern and those who like the rodents. However if they must be around, please make sure they are properly covered!

The amount of squirrel indecency is an outrage in West Seattle and we must stand up as a community and stop this!

shed22ParticipantBuy a bear. That’ll do it.

FionaEnzoParticipantSquirrels sound good compared to their cousins with thinner tails who love my neighbors fruit tree and are trying to find housing via my basement vents. Yuk. Beware the falling fruit.

JoBParticipantmaybe i shouldn’t have fed them..
voracious little buggers
but they were taking food from the birds :(

dhgParticipantMy sister would trap rabbits and release them miles away but still there were rabbits in the garden. What she did not realize is that animals are always looking for new fertile ground to occupy. You remove a squirrel from his habitat, another moves in.
We enjoy watching the squirrels. Our relations routinely feed them in their yards and have special feeders that make the squirrels look silly (look… I’m in a glass jar…) It is better to enjoy than to hate.
