RANT: All Star Fitness safety issues

It seems that our West Seattle All Star Fitness cares little about customer safety. Let's ignore 9 months ago when I injured my achilles tendon and the staff just looked at me. No call to 911 nor any help so I hobbled home on one leg.

Now that I have had surgery to repair the tendon, I really need those little benches in the shower to sit on because I can't stand well in bare feet. Most of those benches are falling off the wall. I have mentioned it to the manager (Brid) and others for over a month. Nothing is being done except some painting on the 3rd floor. This is a law suit waiting to happen.

Oh, "Its on the list of things to fix" is the best I get out of them.

Then most showers have missing floor tiles. Let's talk about sharp edges in the middle of the shower you have to be careful not to step on. Cut feet?

I like the gym and have a fantastic personal trainer, but come on, All Star, fix the safety issues before you land in court. Do I have to show you pictures?

They seem to have a lax attitude about keeping up the place. Conditions there are really starting to degrade.

They haven't had a thermometer in the Sauna for over 2 months. I made a complaint about the black mold in the ladies room behind the shampoo etc...and all they did was paint over it.

I have been a member for like 4 years and am seriously reconsidering my membership.

I cancelled my membership after my excellent personal trainer left them because he was so tired of the ongoing maintenance issues. I also filed a complaint on their website about how cold the pool was--far colder than it needed to be for an exercise pool; my daughter literally turned blue after 15 minutes in it--and never received so much as a "thank you for your feedback" in response. So yeah, not surprised to hear things haven't improved. It's a shame, though, that facility could be so wonderful if proper care was taken to maintain it.

  4. I switched from Allstar to the YMCA over a year ago and couldn't be happier with that descision. Great facility, helpful and kind staff, reasonable cost of membership, and a true community feeling.

  5. I have belonged to Allstar in West Seattle since they opened here and I transferred over from their (defunct) Queen Anne branch. So I am a long-time member who has actually raved about them in the past. My complaint is that every time I renew they treat me like garbage. The last time, which was last fall, the sales guy was smarmy, rude, condescending and was refusing to renew my membership at my usual price because I "did not renew in time". My membership had expired the day before (!) and he admitted they had not sent out renewal notices as is their normal practices because of some changes. He was trying to charge me the new current rate, despite the fact that I have been a good customer with Allstar for well over 10 years (in West Seattle /Q Anne). What a jerk. I asked him to talk to my husband and he was somewhat nicer, finally agreeing to maybe honor the price if paid on the spot. He also tried to tell me I had only joined two years ago based on some faulty information in the system. My husband called up the downtown Executive branch sales representative who was nicer than nice and offered to renew us at the same rate when we could get in to do so. I complained about the jerk at West Seattle but I can tell by the look of apathy on the faces of the staff that they don't care. I know that this rant does not relate to the condition of the showers etc but obviously there is a serious malfunction in how Allstar treats their customers if they are ignoring complaints about equipment or safety issues and treating their longstanding customers like crapola.

i used to be a member of the downtown location and left because on any given day 1/2 the cardio equipment wouldn't be properly working.

  7. I quit the WS All Star after having issues with their lifeguards. I swear that none of them were certified and I feared for anyone in the pool who was a bad swimmer or might have a heart attack. They were the biggest morons ever, but the pool maintenance didn't help the situation either. I like a cold pool, but I think their heater was broken for a good month one year, leaving the water temp around 65 degrees. Unacceptable.

CMP... Since I tend to only be in the pool area i pay attention to the attentiveness of the lifeguards.

I have complained once, with no response from management about the lifeguards texting continuously. Once for at least an hour (the length i was in and out of the sauna).

Kids are breaking rules of conduct (as stated on the wall) left and right (no guardian) and with no general manners.

When was the last time this place was inspected by the Health Department anyway?

I just let my membership lapse at Allstar (after five years) when I went to a different gym with a friend and realized the good equipment makes such a difference in my workout. And this new gym is cheaper than Allstar!

Totally agree about the attitude problem at the front desk! It's just one particular person, and I've faced it two years running. Both times I put in complaints; they were "noted." Fortunately I won't have any further dealings with this person, so I don't know if anything's changed.
