Rally to restore sanity?

  1. if i could.. i might join those on the mall in Washington DC on October 30 just to see what Stewart and Colbert could get up to...

but beyond the humor.. this idea intrigues me. a rally or meet up or get together designed to foster feeling good about being part of a community that talks to one another.. instead of fights.

For me.. this sense of community and ability for a broad range of people to discuss ideas has been the forum's largest draw.

There is a rally to restore sanity Seattle event happening at Westlake that has already secured 2000+ participants... and i could attend that.

but i long for something local...
"just like a chat room only live"

is this a good idea for a forum members meet-up?
should we invite West Seattle or just forum members?
How do people feel about Alki?
any ideas about a good space there?
should this include some way to donate to our local food bank?
    Should we include politics?
How much fun can we have with this?

Right now i am just playing around with the idea... it has been rattling around in there since Jon Stewart announced his DC rally...

i am thinking mid afternoon on saturday..
    after lunch and before dinner
maybe a couple of hours long...

if this idea resonates with you i would be more than happy to spend my limited energy helping to make this happen.

    What do you think?

  2. it's got a definite thumbs up by me. Let me know how I can help. Alki is great...there's the upstairs at Dukes, that might have enough room, depending on the response. But that would involve purchasing food. Hmmm....something to think about. Thanks for the great idea !

  3. I like the idea, but I will be going to the larger rally in Seattle at the time. Perhaps another time than saturday?

  4. I am not opposed to another time and place...

or to this being the first of many events.

Someone suggested a monthly happy hour get together. perhaps we could bring sanity to West Seattle year-round?

JoB and I originally conspired to organize this here -- but I'm developing a burgeoning concern about it nationally -- why in the <blip> are we siphoning off potential *political organizers who should be doorbelling and getting out voters" in states that don't have all mail ballots? October 30 is the last weekend before the damned election.

Maybe I'm disqualified anyway; I've often opened the window and yelled (metaphorically) "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore."

That said, I'm up for whatever we do in WS.

  6. charlabob...

sometimes you do what you can.

right now my health isn't up to the physical stress of a get out the vote campaign any more than it is up to attending a rally in westlake :(

but i can always find the energy to meet with friends and help lay the groundwork for communication that extends beyond the elections.

at least, i hope i can.
