Put your political analysis to good use!

  1. We don't really have a place for this in the main section but perhaps the many sharp, opinionated folks who participate here would include someone interested in this opportunity!

Municipal League Recruits Candidate Evaluation Committee Volunteers

For Rating 2011 King County Primary Elections

SEATTLE – The Municipal League is a volunteer-driven, non-partisan, non-profit organization that has worked to ensure good government that is open, effective and accountable since 1910. Currently, the Municipal League is seeking volunteers to serve on its Candidate Evaluation Committees (CEC), comprised of dedicated volunteers of diverse backgrounds, ages, and political beliefs who evaluate candidates running for local offices in King County. Volunteer applications are due June 3, 2011 and may be submitted online at http://www.munileague.org.

Are you interested in making an impact on local politics this year?

The Municipal League is currently looking for volunteers to serve on our 2011 Candidate Evaluation Committees (CEC). Our program provides the region’s only independent, non-partisan, non-agenda driven evaluation of candidates for public office. Our ratings attempt to answer a fundamental question for voters: How well could the candidate do the job?

As a volunteer, you will be asked to dedicate a few weeknights in June and July to research, interview, and rate candidates. As a volunteer in the rating process, you will also be required to refrain from active involvement in campaigns or political parties during the election season and must step aside from the ratings process if you have connections to any candidate in any particular race.

Candidate ratings are based on four criteria—Knowledge, Involvement, Effectiveness and Character—as well as each candidate's potential to serve their community. The ratings are not based on a candidate’s political affiliations or policy positions and provide King County voters with a non-partisan view so that they may make an informed choice in the primary and general elections.

If you are a King County resident interested in politics, local government, and networking in a unique environment, this is a great opportunity for you!

Volunteer applications are due June 3, 2011. To learn more about the Candidate Evaluation Committee program or to submit your application, please visit http://www.munileague.org or call 206.622.8333.

I'd love to see the Blog sponsor an Internet candidates' forum where readers submitted questions and local candidates answered them online.

Blog readership is large and politically engaged. Candidates would be well advised to start courting us.

Zenguy: Good on you! My intuition tells me that you are a member of the younger set. We need more folks like you in politics.

  6. It is younger than me (50). I'm guessing it's younger than the average WS wonk, too.

(Not that there's anything wrong with life experience.)

Anyway, you have a fresh and upbeat outlook on life. That's the most important thing.
