Poisoned Waters

  1. Great Frontline documentary tonight discussing land rights and storm water pollution in Puget Sound.
Highlighted were divers at Seacrest Park,Alki, and the highly publicized PCB's in South Park.
Journalist Hedrick Smith (Wife's mother lives in West Seattle) and owns land in Orcas island highlighted this area with a startling wake up call to our polluted water by housing developments and heavy industry like Boeing.
    Here's a short clip.

  2. Trick..thank you...fascinating. And on top of that, now they're talking about all the drugs that we toss, flush into our water system. We simply have to do better...I can't imagine losing the beauty that's Puget Sound.

  3. I use to think like Gregoire mentioned.
It would all be diminished by the sea, but now we know it's like a big bathtub.
We're down to only 85 whales now? huh?
By the next 10-15 yrs the Pods won't exist? HUH?

    Definitely informative to see.
Thank you Jan for your reply :)

  4. You can watch the whole thing online if you missed the broadcast.

I watched it on KCTS. I grew up in Maryland practically within a stone's throw of the Potomac and am familiar with the problems in the Chesapeake, too, so that part was interesting to me as well.

I went on one of BJ's river tours a couple of months ago, since I can see the Duwamish from my back deck. Fascinating stuff. One of the reasons for the Greenbelt work parties I go on is controlling runoff: planting trees helps keep the soil from eroding, stabilizing the hillside and slowing the flow of water.
