Plumbing Recommendations?

I am looking for recommendations for a reasonably priced and reliable plumber.

I will put it out there that I called Southwest Heating & Plumbing and despite an outrageous bid I will not use or consider them due to the fact that they left the crawl space open on the outside of my house after I specifically asked them to make sure they closed it. Rats from the neighbors got under the house (I didn't realize it was open for 3 days) and management at SWHP told me they'd call me back on 3 occasions when I called them about it and I could never get a call back from anyone.

I'm looking to have the section beneath my kitchen and possibly also my bathroom repiped. Currently I have very little pressure in this section of the house and the water is discolored.

Thank you for any tips! Looking on Craigslist at all the people advertising their services is a bit daunting...and without recommendations.

  3. I called Joe for a quote on replacing the pipes in our house but he said he doesn't do that.

I got a very reasonably priced quote from Tim Sweeney who's been recommended by several folks here and is a WSB advertiser.

Now I just need to call him back to schedule the work!

The next best plumbing company I've worked with is O'Neill on California. They replaced all my pipes from the street and gave me the best quote. That was about six years ago, but I had them back to hook up my new kitchen. Still professional. Still excellent.

And, I might add, the worst plumbing company I ever crossed path with was Southwest when I first moved into the house. Yuck.

I would use Emerald City Plumbing. The owner, Wayne, is very straightforward, has prices you can live with, is professional, and doesn't treat you like he is never going to see you again. You also don't get brushed off when you have special requests or tell him what is important to YOU. This is the kind of business you make sure and get a few extra business cards from, because you know you are going to hand them out to friends who need a plumber.

  7. I'd just like to add that I've used Southwest twice and been extremely happy with their service.

Just want to make sure this doesn't become an unfair bash-fest.

    Good luck with your service!

  8. I second Paul with Stalwart. He replaced the pipes in our small house last winter. Took him two days. I've called twice since with questions and he's been more than willing to chat with me on the phone. He had to come back a few months later because of some missed communication on who was going to glue the pipes on the water heater (someone else installed the week before Paul came and left for Paul to glue in case it had to be moved). He came out within a couple days and while he was here installed a sprayer for me. I had asked his advice about installation and he did it free of charge. Super stand-up guy and I'd use him again without question. Gave a quote before the job started and that was what it cost.

Tim Sweeney is not only a capable plumber, but he's a standup guy. We live in a rental he renovated and I've been very impressed with all facets of the home-- and the plumbing design and functions have been stellar. He's always been very responsive and helpful during all of our interactions, so I'd assume he behaves similarly with his business.

  12. I highly recommend O'Neill Plumbing. I've used them for my business and my residence with services that included: a difficult sewer line replacement, sump pump installation, kitchen re-piping, bathroom repairs and upgrades...you name it. Excellent service, savvy when it comes to "antique" plumbing, and what I really appreciate is that they are very honest and forthcoming in making recommendations that are in their client's best interest. It keeps me coming back, but not soon I hope!
