He had a green brocade collar with tags. He is chipped. He was last seen on 8/25 Westbound on Charlestown near 45th. FYI to all, while we usually keep the Pets info on the Pets page as a reliable clearinghouse for those who have lost/found pets to be able to go to, we have been hearing about additional sightings of this distinctive-looking dog so we encouraged them to post here. Follow the Pets tab from any page and the shortcut link to Lost/Found - Gibs\'N is a few dogs in.
(We expect to enable pictures in forum posts in the long-awaited technical upgrade that is under way right now - no estimated date but in the future that will help with things like this!)
Gibs\'N\'s owners say they have received some calls that someone might have been seen walking him or a dog like him ... TR

i hope gibbs comes home soon...
you can manage fireworks because you now they are coming.. but a storm like that is harder...
Posted 3 years ago # -
that is sooo sad!!! i know exactly what your going through awhile back my dog jumped my front gate in a thunder storm. We found him a week later down at the queen ann animal shelter. Try calling them everyday because the dogs that are picked up in west seattle get taken there first. Good luck!!!!
Posted 3 years ago # -
I travel that area everyday and will keep an eye out. He is a distinctive looking dog. I hope he gets home soon! Animals really get freaked out by those storms.

I hope you get him back soon. He is a great looking dog. Very distinctive, you would think he would be easy to spot.

I saw the flyer at Westcrest Off leash area yesterday. I also have an Irish Water Spaniel, and just can\'t imagine waking up in the morning and not hearing the thump-thump-thump of the rat tail. If not found by the weekend, I would be more than happy to take part in a search. What is Gibson\'s temperament? If he\'s like most IWS I know, he\'s cautious but likes people, which means it may be difficult to coax him out of hiding.

Regarding the post with reports of others walking similar dogs--there at least three, maybe for other IWS in West Seattle. One is mine, and lately we\'ve only walked from our house to Westcrest park. There is another couple who live in Admiral that have two IWS and may have gotten a third. There may be others, but I\'m not aware of them (of course I wasn\'t aware of Gibs\'N until I saw the flyer yesterday).

Hello, I\'m Gibs\'n\'s owner, I can\'t begin to tell you how much our family misses him, it\'s like our lives are on hold and nothing can replace his sweet disposition around our house. What the previous poster says, Gibs\'n is very cautious and will be scared of people he does not know, so if you see him call us as soon as you can at 206 910-1231 so we can come to wherever you are AND we can help you approach him. He\'s very friendly once he knows someone. In closing I have to say how wonderful people we\'ve given our flyers to and how many of them have read about Gibs\'n on the West Seattle blog.
Thank you all so much

Hi Mary - Its Lisa - I called you tonight to offer to look for Gibs\'n, which I did. I went through the Madison Middle School area, then combed Schmitz Park Elementary and the upper ridges of the park.
If folks want to gather together to do a more thorough sweep of the park, beach area, etc, I think that could be more effective.
Let us know if you would like us to do this and the day/time and I am sure many of us will be there if we can!

Hi Lisa,
Thank you for looking. We\'re planning on organizing a search for tomorrow. I\'ll work out the details today and post it.

Hi - I\'m Gibs\'N\'s \"Aunt\" Lorece-
He would be getting very hungry by now and may be coming out of hiding very nervously.
He may run away if approached but if seen call 206-910-1321 or 206-938-7877 and someone will get to you quickly.
The reward is up to $1000 now for anyone leading us to him.
His home is on 36th and Andover and we are going to try to put together another large organized search party each day this weekend too.
Anyone wanting a flyer or photo emailed to them for reference please let us know!
We are not giving up. This kindness of this community is amazing.
Thank You,
Lorece Newton-Moore

I can help look over the weekend, just send out a post with the logistics.
LisaPosted 3 years ago # -
Thank you all so much for your continued support. We\'ve been out flyering again this evening, the more people see a picture of our unique dog the better our chances of him being seen when he finally gets hungry enough to come out. When Loreece shows up tomorrow we\'ll form a game plan and post it. Probably around 10 am.
Posted 3 years ago # -
I just went out to look in the general area that he was last spotted. After calling out several times, I heard a response (barking). This of course may have just been other neighborhood dogs barking because it was after dark, but you never know.
I waited there for a while calling and looked around in bushes etc but no sign of him. But the answer to my calling out gave me hope he may be in the area.
Have you gone door to door in that area? Maybe someone took him in, but isn\'t a WSB visitor...?
I\'ll keep my eye out and do a drive by during daylight hours.

Loreece is coming over early this afternoon with Gibs\'n\'s mom to help look for him. We\'ll have her wearing a bright orange vest with the picture of Giibs\'n on it\'s side, that way people won\'t think it\'s Gibs\'n. We\'re going to continue to canvas all areas we can, he could be almost anywhere in the vicinity by now so we\'ll try and leave no stone unturned. If you want to come with us or to hand out flyers just post here or call 206-910-4588, most likely we\'ll be down by Alki point because of the high volume of traffic down there, but we will also be on Charlestown near 45th Ave SW.
Thank you all for so much support you have no idea how much it means to us.Posted 3 years ago # -
I\'m willing to help out, if I can free myself from work. We have an ongoing production problem, with next status at noon. Should know by 12:30. I\'m wondering if there\'s been any search of blackberry thickets along Gibs\'n\'s suspected route? I\'d be willing to start looking. And, as I said before, I also have an IWS. If there\'s any merit to taking her to Alki as another sample of the breed, I could do that, but I suspect time spent searching is better spent.

Mary - count me in. I will call you in a bit to find out where to meet and get supplies.

I\'m so sorry. I\'ll help if needed. We lost our dog while on our trip, recently. She was scared by her new dog sitter. They found her after several hours. We were completely traumatized the whole time she was missing. I am not a religious person but will pray you find your buddy! I\'ll drive around today, too. Have there been any sightings? Does he like other dogs? Are there any other tricks to lure him out? Any special treats or food he likes? Good luck! Keep us updated.
Posted 3 years ago # -
I\'ll probably be tied up until mid-afternoon. I\'m the on-call person for work today and we\'ve got a number of production issues going on and my back up is involved on another problem.

Posting an update here as the family is out looking:
Gibs\'n was spotted this morning running up Orleans St from the beach where it intersects with Charlestown. The familiy is focusing their search in this area and Schmitz Park.
I have a ton of flyers for posting and will be doing this in the Admiral neighborhood business area - if you want to help me, give me a call at 206-790-1428.
Thanks,

I just talked with a friend who\'s worked with the seattle humane society forever and he suggested, in addition to everything else, which is perfect, a door-to-door canvas; maybe in areas where he\'s spotted. It\'s surprising how many people don\'t see the posted flyers and, even, don\'t read the forums of the blog.
I\'ve looked through all the newspapers and the national \"found and lost\" registries. Now I\'m starting on \"suspicious\" ads for dogs for sale.
Very good news that he\'s been spotted.Posted 3 years ago # -
WE FOUND HIM! HIIIS PADS ARE RAW BUT HE\'S HOME! I\'LL SEND THE DETAILS LATER.
Thank you for all of your help!

Lisa called me shortly after with the news. I am so glad to hear he\'s home. Best wishes to all of you. This means my dogs (IWS and Chocolate Lab) get an extra long Sunday morning walk through the greenbelt.

Cute Dood:)

That\'s the best news ever -- there really are great things about being part of a community. Give him a big pat for us and all the katskys.
I ran across a dangerously large number of adorable dogs when I was looking for him in the \"found dogs\" ads -- if anyone was motivated by this story to add a(nother) canine member to your family, petfinder can connect you. I\'m still outvoted, but I\'m sure some of you have more reasonable roommates. :-)

Mary & Family - we are just thrilled and overjoyed - Gibs\'n has a whole new fan club now!
I wish I could see him having his first meal and settling into his good bed - such relief!
Let me know if you find a good GPS system - after this - I may get one too!
Lisa
PS - lets all try to remove flyers as we see them so Mary doesn\'t get a million calls...Posted 3 years ago # -
Another happy ending to a lost pet story! Way to pull together WS!!

That is so cool. I am so happy for GibsN and family!!

I\'m thrilled and relieved at the good news. The lost pets page is such a sad read, especially the older posts. It\'s great to get good news for a change.

We\'re so happy, I can\'t even express my feelings. The past 5 days have been miserable. Gibs\'N is very thin and his pads are worn. He\'s weak and his legs shake when he stands but I don\'t think he has serious damage. We\'ll get him checked out today. He\'s absolutely covered in sticks and various flora and fauna.
Lorece and I were out posting more signs and searching on Orleans and 53rd when the first call came in from a Pagliacci Pizza driver who spotted him on 44th and Genesee. We ran to the car and started heading that way when another call came in. He was on Andover closing in on California. Two more calls came in and we knew we were close. We pulled over and ran down the street calling out to him. A girl named Aime called out to us and asked if we were looking for a dog. Aime recognized him from the posters and stopped to coax him into her car. I ran to the car and opened the back door. Wagging tail and kisses. Thanks to all of you who sent prayers, messages of encouragement and positive thoughts as it meant a lot to me and helped me keep the faith.
