I have to say that I am not a fan of contests so I hadn't mentioned that "be entered in a drawing for $100" - the Times unilaterally decided to do that. I think my attitude comes from having been disappointed in the lottery so often :) and hating to be responsible for raising hopes.
We also do not support "like this page to enter the contest" or "retweet this to enter our contest" tactics or "give us your e-mail address to enter our contest" stuff (which is usually a scam to build an e-mail marketing list ... we don't have one and never have had one). Although I am pretty sure the Times will NOT spam you if you had to give your address to enter for the $100 ... please let me know if they do.
And thanks again to everyone taking a few minutes for this. On both sides of the partnership, the neighborhood/niche sites and the Times, we have barely scratched the surface of potential collaboration, but there are definitely benefits - my favorite is that we can request a photo from them if they happen to cover something that we are unable to get a photographer to. Has happened about half a dozen times. Often in court - while we are lucky sometimes to be able to get our own great photographers to shoot suspects (which is of value if they ever get out) like Christopher, or more recently the person who shot the Fauntleroy murder suspect for us, other times we just can't - the Times provided a very clear photo of Duane Starkenburg, when all I could do that morning was aim the iPhone through the courtroom glass barrier.
Just a datapoint! Thanks again.
