Please suggest phone, TV, internet providers

  1. I am about done with Qwest and Comcast. There must be some other ways to receive land line phone, internet and TV service. Someone told me a little about Clear Channel. Anyone know about them or others? Have you dealt with these providers you're suggesting yourself and how has your experience been? What more can you tell me about their service, costs, usability?

  2. also interested in feedback; for me, Qwest and Comcast tie for WORST customer service

  3. we are currently using clear for internet... and have been for over a year. It was ok.. but we weren't going to renew.. then they announced their upgraded service.. and in spite of the fact that their website didn't show our part of west seattle with a stellar signal we hung in there...

Where you are really does matter with clear... the service is marginally better with their latest upgrade but the signal got weaker recently... about a month after getting the new modem we went from 3 out of 5 bars to 1 or 2 if we were lucky.

this matters to us since when hubby is on call we have to have a decent signal and it wasn't strong enough for him to work from home.

I called and on the third call someone told me that the new modems.. which looked just like the old... have the antenna opposite the plug-in.. and it really does matter where you point the antenna..

difficult to do if we didn't have an A/C unit in the window.. but we now get 3 out of 5 bars reception... better.. but still not good enough to stream video to the TV.

and they didn't offer any reasons the service would have degraded so long after getting the new modem:(

Since our VOIP is dependent upon our internet service.. we are not exactly tickled with that either:( good thing we both have mobiles.

We just found out that there is a tower to the south.. so will try the modem in a south facing window. I am not going to be exactly tickled about rearranging my entire house (office in what is now a living room) to get a good signal... but at this point it would beat finding myself stuck in another contract with so so service..

    what's a girl to do?

I recently switched to Clear after getting fed up with Comcast. For me, Clear has been cheaper and faster without the service interruptions that I was getting with Comcast, so far. Of course, they do have a tower on my block, so I should have about the strongest signal available. There are parts of West Seattle that don't have Clear reception, period, so you would need to check that before going with them.

I had two Clear reps look it up for me. One of them could only pull up the coverage map, which showed a strong signal in my area. Since WS is so hilly, I wanted a second opinion. The other, who I talked to over the phone, was able to pull up the address of the property the tower is on, or the address it would be if several lots hadn't been combined on this block. I don't think the address really exists.

  7. can you post an approximate location of the tower for those of us in West Seattle who would like to improve our signal?

you can use west seattle landmarks.. like up the hill east of home depot.... or something similar.

and how many bars to you get on your modem being so close?

I live near the corner of California and Edmunds. I use the USB adapter rather than the fixed modem, and when I mouse over the ten bars on my display, I get the message, 'perfect signal.'

  10. rockhills..
    i envy you
we checked speeds today and are getting what was advertised.. but not consistently:(
still.. it's been less troublesome than the USWest high speed connection it replaced
and now that we have reoriented the modem it is once again working fine.

who knew i would ever be the one to moon over someone else's internet connection ;)
