   Hi, Mom and I are going to skip town for a few days soon and we have two cats. The female is about a year and the male is about 6 or 7 years old (don't really know as he was a stray). Anyway I am wondering which way would be best to take care of the cats while we are away.

   Would a pet sitter be better or a pet boarding? I want them to be able to get fresh air and sleep when they want to. The female is more active then the male.

   If pet boarding is what I decide where is the best place to take them.

   Cats almost always do best in their own homes. Boarding is highly stressful for most cats and most places only have cage boarding.

   There are many great pet sitters in west seattle.

   We tend not to board our indoor cats as lenamegan's right, it's usually too stressful (heck, our male cat works himself up so much whenever he's in the pet carrier that it's just painful to watch, and usually messy). We often barter with friends in the area who can come over to feed/play with them when we're out of town though, so no recommendations on cat boarding/cat pet sitters.

   I'll third it for a cat sitter over boarding. Cats are much happier staying in their own territory. I don't know if Sherri at Catspa still does this, but I can recommend her highly. The second time I used her was five years after the first. My standoffish outdoor cat saw her from two houses down, streaked home, jumped through the cat door,and ran through the house to leap into her lap and cuddle. She also watered my plants for me and left a daily log.

   I'll 4th it for in-home cat sitting, especially if you'll only be gone for a few days. MUCH less stress on the animal. They might be a bit lonely, but not scared.

   Another vote here for having a pet sitter come to the house. And another vote for Sherry at Catspa. She has taken care of our cats for years. She will do medications too, if yours need that. I believe her number is 206.935.5956.

   Pet sitter 100%. When I leave town, I have a pet sitter come 2x a day to take care of my animals. They are MUCH more comfortable in their own home. I use Erin Williams (206) 437-7748 and she will spend time with my animals, not just feed/water/potty and leave. I personally would never board.

   I am also for house sitting for two reasons. One which was already stated is the stress on the cat unfamiliar surroundings and people create, , and two I have had many friends who have sent healthy pets to boarding to get back very sick or injured ones :(

   Boarding pets is very cruel unless you had an emergency in which you had zero time to look for other options. If you can't take care of them properly, you shouldn't have them in the first place.

    livingunderthatbridge, Celeste was simply asking for advice based on the experiences of others.

    I really think that she and her Mom are entitled to occasionally leave town for a short time.

    I've met Celeste in person a couple of times, and read her postings and interacted with her here on WSB for over 2 years now, and have found her to be a decent human being based on those interactions.

    Besides, if she didn't care about her cats, I doubt she would have started this thread, asking for advice.

    I also use Erin Williams (206) 437-7748. She is wonderful, and I trust her 100% to take of my pets.

    I agree with others, please don't board...it's too scary for cats. Keep them home in their safe place and let Erin come over to feed/water/play, that's what we do
