Our family has made the painful decision to put our much-loved family companion to rest. We are looking for a local vet recommendation to provide euthanasia with compassion, respect, and dignity. We'd like to have it done in their office rather than at home. Our family companion is not a cat or a dog.

Dr. Krabel at Lien Animal Clinic 3710 SW Alaska Street, 932-1133, helped us out two years ago with our very dignified twenty year old girl kitty.
I would recommend him, his assistants, and the clinic staff for their compassion, reverence, and condolences during the whole process. They allowed us in with little more than an hour notice, too. Good people.

On this one I would recommend Lein too. They have room specifically set up for this. You can stay as long as you need.

RG - I would highly recommend Dr. Bergstrom at West Seattle Animal Hospital. She recently helped our Emmy go to the giant dog park in the sky and was very compassionate. She gave us a lot of information about the process, let us make the decision, and gave us a lot of time with her before and after. Although I can't go to her right now because to be honest it's just too hard to see her, she will forever be my animal's vet.
P.S. I'm really sorry you're losing your family member. :-( It is very tough.
Lien has a special peaceful place for transitioning your loved one.
Take all of your pet's favorite treats with you, especially the forbidden ones. If not able to eat it, the smell should make them happy.
For people hearing their loved ones voice is a calming thing but for pets maybe touch is more comforting. Whatever sense they have now, feed it as much as you are able.
I (next time) will ask the vet for a little pet Valium to give before we set off to the clinic.
I don't think pets know that they have retirement accrued. To leave their job of making us happy and loved? I wrote a letter to my dear Millie the day before. It helped me some later... and I buried her with it, then planted a beautiful rose bush... so that her love will continue to grow and give to those around her.
It has been 15 years and I still miss her every day!

I'm sorry to hear this. Losing an animal friend is a sad time. Don't forget to allow yourself to grieve as needed. People like to point out how "it's only a pet" and belittle the grief. Feel free to tell them to stuff it. :)
For this particular situation, I also recommend Lien. They're very compassionate, and have a lot of options for afterward, also. Cremation vs burial vs the other options -- all big decisions.
We opted for the "cremation and scatter in an apple orchard in Eastern Washington" choice, which sounded nice and was a reasonable cost, too. What we didn't know, or were too overwhelmed to hear, at the time was that it's a mass cremation unless other arrangements are made, or unless you're getting the ashes back. I know this is sucky to hear, but it's good to know in case you have a preference.
RG, Our hearts and thoughts are with you. This is one of the most difficult, and loving, compassionate decisions we can make for our pets.
As others have stated, Lien Animal Clinic has a quiet room set aside so your family and pet can spend as much time together as you want and need. As stated by JacksMom, consider a valium for your pet and loving touch. Wishing you peace.

We took our family companion to Lien today. The staff and the doctor were emotionally supportive and understanding during our process of loss, and, then grief.
We are forever grateful to the Lien staff for "getting it". They knew what it meant for us to lose our dear one.
