Where in (or near) (or at least in Seattle) the neighborhood can one get a really fantastic pastrami sandwich or reuben?

"Hey Paison" in Burien! With huge pickles and cheesecake, just like the Carnegie Deli in NYC...

for realz? "just like" Carnegie Deli? Well, come on,
man.edit: I re-read and stand corrected before anyone clobberz me. I'm sure they do in fact have cheese cake and pickles.

Goldbergs Famous Deli in Factoria ... They even make chocolate egg creams (and they put pickles on the table too!!) :D

I think I'll have to hit each of these spots. Thanks WSBers! And chocolate egg cream YUMYUM WANT

Swinery sold some fantabulous housemade pastrami, but they had to change how they were making it, I think. Now they carry Zoe's pastrami, which is also very very good.

I'm 25 years old. With that said, I have never tasted a pastrami sandwich. How terrible is that? lol

Terrible Beauty's Reuben is "terribly excellent." The first time I had their Reuben (shortly after they opened) it was terribly greasy (almost could have used it for an oil change on the car) but the last time we went this sandwich was near perfection.
I also have to second the vote for Goldberg's in Factoria. If I were to have a sandwich as my last meal ever, their Amadeus --corned beef or pastrami with chopped liver -- would be a serious contender.

Has anyone been to Stopsky's on Mercer Island?
Posted 6 months ago # -
Good call Pigeonmom. Mercer Island is like Pride Rock for the Jewish community in Seattle. Stopsky's would the the first place I'd look for a "reference" pastrami sangwich or Reuben, aside from Katz's Deli on East Houston Street in Manhattan.

Stopsky's was profiled in the SeaTimes (I think) last weekend. My reference Rueben is Hilltop Ale House's sandwich but I am the opposite of Jewish (Lutheran by birth) and probably don't have the cred unlike those who've lived in NY (like CJB).

oh my ... "really fantastic" I've found is all in your definition. Thickish white bread, huge mound of pastrami, NOT dry but not greasy to the point it "leaks" at all; a tad, only a tad, of fat on a couple of edges; super-thin slice; yellow mustard only, no other condiments; and warmed up (not in the microwave or a paniniweenie machine). Great post spana! :->

Market House Meats! It's an old-school place (i.e. no atmosphere) at 1124 Howell St., sort of east Belltown area near I-5. They cure their own meats, and grill up the sandwiches as you watch. SO GOOD!

Second the recommending of Hey Paison!
