I wonder if there was any sleeping last night for either of the vice presidential candidates? I'm sure if there was, "Ambien" was involved :-)

My take on tonight debate is that the bar will be lowered in that the questions will simple and generalized.

I expect alot of "skimming the surface" answers from Sarah Palin, stated with all the charm, wit and smiles that can be mustered to cover for lack of experience and knowledge.

I expect Jo Biden will be very very careful on his demeanor, and may look passive while trying to inject as much information as possible with his level of experience and knowledge. I hope he just targets McCain and gets pointed like he is so good at doing.

I don't have any expectations that tonight will be anywhere near the level it should be for a Vice Presidential debate unfortunately.

We will be left with fluffy answers with the expectation to make our own decisions about it by reading in-between the lines.

Well either way, its going to be interesting entertainment :-)

Don't you think the lowered expectations are intentional? Right now, all she has to do is not make any serious blunder and all the republicans will be delirious with admiration again. And how hard is it to cram for a test? She hasn't been doing much else with her time.

Yes I do believe the lowered expectations are intentional.

The news media's have been stating she has been working on the debate for a couple weeks, in fact she is in a debate camp now from doing so badly in a few mock debates...

Yeah, I'm thinking tonight's debate won't be nearly as interesting/funny as some people are expecting it to be. Palin will have her memorized answers, so things won't get out of hand like they did with Katie Couric.

Biden just needs to stick to his agenda (while also attacking McCain) and pretty much ignore the fact that Palin is even there. The people that love her will continue to love her, but as long as Biden expresses his and Obama's position on the issues well, he'll easily win the debate.

The only diaster will be if he starts getting into it with Palin and he comes off as a bully/d*ck.

I'm not sure how funny it will be at the moment, but as soon as Tina Fey mimics per batim on SNL, it will be hilarious.

In fact as soon as I see Palin I am reminded of Tina Fey. That by itself will put a smile on my face.

CC, I have the same reaction, which is almost paradoxical. I love Tina Fey, so I don't find watching Palin offensive in the least. Her politics, however, quite offensive.

  9. CountingCoup, when you are writing a post to start a new thread, please notice the drop-down menu box next to "Pick a section", just above the "Send Post" button. This is where you choose which Forum your post will go in. The default is Reader Recommendations. Post such as these belong in 2008 Elections.

I've seen you create new threads in the wrong forum more than once, which is the only reason I'm calling it to your attention. Unfortunately the only person who can move posts between the different forums is the "keymaster", aka lowmanbeach.

Thanks in advance for taking care of this the next time you begin a new thread... not everyone wants to read debates & commentary about the elections.

    Sorry Hopey,

I will try to remember that next time, but I see many political posts in the open forum. But I understand you would rather not see them unless you select to do so.

This is pathetic -- if it results in anything other than a sinking in the McCain-Palin poll numbers we are screwed.

I'm watching on BBC Amwrica - simply because I want to see the European view.

Biden has facts - Palin has retired beauty queen crap.

    Good lord...Maverick...maverick...maverick.

What really does that mean, sure it sounds good, but what exactly is behind it?

And where are the hard questions? Abortion? Um....Women's rights?

Memorizing and reading note cards wont win an election.

It is ironic that a woman could be so demeaning to women.

  28. this made me LOL, from the Fark.com forum: "She's all over the place! She dodges questions to talk about energy, poorly! One response she's the Party Of Personal Responsibility, and the next, she's Party Of Goin' Git Those Wall Street East Coast *spit* Sharks Who Screwed Normal Folk! She's hardly had a coherent train of thought all night. And she just looks so PLEASED with herself while she does it! It's a little sad."

My husband was watching some website where it monitored the women vs. the men's reactions to Gov. Palin's responses and good ol Joey really appealed to the women.

Both VP candidates displayed balls tonight, but I predict an uptick in McCain numbers in the next week. Palin held her ground with one of the most senior politicians in our country.

Biden should have made her look silly, but she stood her ground.

You better start getting used to her voice.

Palin was effing awesome!! She held her own and more so. Too bad she's not Obama's V.P. or it would be a shoe in. She's still looking pretty hot too. She came on strong near the end. I can't believe she was a runner up for Miss Alaska. I wished she would have torn up Biden. Biden went on too long at times. She has some hot legs I noticed...lol

  33. I wonder sometimes if some of these pundits are watching the same thing I am. Pat Buchanan (yeah, I know) says that she was wonderful, that she won this debate hands down, that Joe Biden was boring. I didn't see any need for Gwen Ifill, as far as Palin is concerned...she simply went about her agenda, and what she had practiced...at least, that's what it seemed to me.

When she said she had only been at this for 5 weeks, so..........that was a defining moment for me..she's not ready.

OK...let's hear from the more conservative members now. Pat Buchanan wants to father her future kids, how about the rest of you? ;-)

    Posted 3 years ago #
  34. hehehe...House...the voice is like my old home ec teacher's fingernails on the blackboard...but, then, John McCain's voice doesn't exactly turn me on either.

jiggers...there are a lot of good looking women in the world...I certainly hope that's not what you base your vote on.

    Biden Won,

Palin was elusive, unfocused on the questions, and clearly out of her league for a Vice Presidential position.

She didn't feel like answering the moderators questions or even specific Biden responses that were posed and decided to instead speak to the American people...

Well, this American clearly sees that her political knowledge on issues outside of her prepared rhetoric and John McCain
"Rah Rah" is that of a small town mayor but not one who is asking to be in the 2nd highest position in the US.

The fact checks tomorrow will be interesting...

    Biden won, hands down!

And by the way, I believe he was 100% on! I wish he would have indirectly brought more attention to the Supreme court which will be greatly affected by the next administration.

She never answered the actual question being asked. She gave 2 minute mini-speeches saying whatever she felt like. I'm sure her fans are ecstatic because she sounded like she knew what she was talking about. But what exactly is that? I can't think of anything she stands for other than "we're gonna fix it".

    Posted 3 years ago #
  40. Thanks, Jen..

guidosmom..I won bingo a few times.

did anyone notice that she got the name of the commander in Afghanistan wrong, and that she got the # of troops in Iraq wrong...

ha ha ha someone wants to chose VP based on looks. You deserve what you get, then.

    Palin's favorite word: also.

  42. Oh, I can't believe I am even going to comment, being one of seven Republicans in Seattle proper... I think she rocked it. I don't agree with every item on the Repub ticket but I am also probably more liberal than most Dems on issues like gay marriage or abortion. And I think Mr. Biden did well. But he should have slammed her and he didn't. I love both their patriotism. I appreciate the sacrifice both families are making for our country. I look forward to seeing how our country turns with our new president, whoever it may be.

Oh. And she did overuse maverick. For sure. You betcha. Gosh darn.

I love it how she says 'too' and 'also' in almost every sentence. I give her credit that she was able to complete the debate without answering a single question. She did the best she could, but it wasn't even close to good enough.

Any uptick in McCain's numbers due to this pathetic performance will immediate vanish after next Tuesday. Luckily she'll be locked up by the McCain camp again so we won't have to listen to her voice much - except for Tina Fey.

Jan, I haven't seen that, but for a couple weeks now the phone pole on my street has a Palin for President poster, with a picture of Michael Palin (Monty Python) in a priest outfit.

Makes me laugh every time I see it.
