This is a discussion opportunity for those of us in the community that feel the annual painting of Charlestown St. presumably by members of the local high school graduating class is a harmless prank that disappears in a couple of months and is an opportunity for our local youth to express a milestone in their life in a way that doesn't really hurt anyone. It is a tradition that should be continued.

I am going to go with "harmless prank" .... Unless they also paint nearby signs and fences. I think that part is vandalism.

  4. If you all agree, what's the point of having a discussion?

That's a very good point, datamuse. It's just that I have noticed a lot of comments lately about snarkiness and trolls and I thought if everyone agreed with each other there might be a more friendly tone to a thread or two. In hindsight I probably should have sought out a solution from the two different camps. I must admit the sidewalk chalk idea is pretty cool. I even think we should block the street off for a night or two and let the students go nuts. . . . . takes a bit of the (supposed) "fun" out of it but the tradition would live on and the students would be safer.

  6. The tradition of painting the hill has been around longer than most West Seattle residents. Don't like it, detour. It'll be gone soon. Next.
