This is a discussion opportunity for those of us in the community that feel the annual painting of Charlestown St. presumably by members of the local high school graduating class should be considered vandalism. It's unsafe, unsightly and a crime that should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Let the excited graduates be excited...suggest putting a bucket of sidewalk chalk out there...then it washes away in in the next rain...

Chalk certainly sounds a lot more environmentally friendly than petrochemical-based paints that "disappear" gradually into the watershed and end up being ingested by whatever happens to be swimming in the Sound.

If there's an environmentally friendly chalk out there, it sounds like a great solution. If the practice were completely stopped I'd miss telling visitors to the area that we have a street so steep, it has graffiti on it.

I guess I feel painting the street is ok, chalk would be much better though ... I draw the line at the stop sign that got painted over this year and the swastika from last year. Glad both were fixed quickly.

Painting the road should be a crime. I suggest the recent grads decorate each of their parent's house. With oil based paints, of course. Yeah, that would be a great way to keep the celebration all in the immediate family. That way, the whole classy family could enjoy the great celebration!!! Thumbs up if you think my plan is genius! Congratulations grads!
Oh! Sorry if your Dad kicked your ass! But, you could paint the toes of his boot. That way, you can have some nice painting in the middle of your butt. Oil based, of course! And, if he booted your rear hard enough, maybe a permanent tatoo on your butt, as well! Sounds like a win-win!

The paint IS really difficult to work with. I would have liked some chalk as I watched one of my classmates accidentally kick over a bucket of paint and mess up our whole design the year we did it. We had planned on keeping in modest, but dear god.
Is there something a little more permanent than chalk but not as environmentally crappy/permanent as paint? Because we might be getting somewhere with this.
