Out of state election robocalls

me, too. I've been getting 2-3 a day from "CAP", only one so far has left a recorded message. I know who they are and will NOT pick up when they call, although at times I just pick up the receiver and drop it back, ending the phone call. I can read, and can make up my own mind...I don't need them to tell me how to vote, thank-you.

I agree; these are a pain in the a** and would never help me to choose a candidate. But someone must be listening to these. A load of campaign funds are committed to these calls so it must have some effect, right?
Two I recieved on Friday. One was supposedly a "scientific poll" seeking who I would vote for in the mayoral race. Within a minute it was clear that this was a Mallahan sponsored "scientific poll" and attempted to point out flaws of the Nickels administration.
The other was a live caller who kept referring to the "bag tax" even after I told her to stop saying such; that it wasn't a tax. Eventually I had to hang up on her mid sentance because she couldn't think for herself and could only read script.Posted 2 years ago # -
I think the national do not call list is waaaay too limited. Robocalls should be banned altogether, whether they exist as a fundraiser for charity or to try to persuade you to vote for someone or even if it is just selling vinyl siding.
"Push polling", where they call asking you for your opinion but the questions are along the lines of "Would you vote for him if you knew he was a polygamous drug-abuser..." should be a jailable offense.Posted 2 years ago # -
Thanks for the new vocabulary; push polling. I agree, it and robocalls in general are hideous. I cannot imagine getting enough legislstors to vote for its demise. Seems every one of them have used it.

I will be SO glad the election is over and they will stop. Fortunately, most of them go to my machine when I'm at work, and when I listen to my messages I can just hit delete as they start. I'm averaging about 5 a day. Even got one last night at 9pm, but they hung up on the machine when I ignored it (caller ID had a candidate's name, which is why I knew to ignore it).

I generally don't answer the phone if I don't know who it is, but I have to listen to the voicemail they leave. Last night, I received a local call - from the Mike Mallahan campaign office. Gee, I wonder how the former cell phone exec got my unlisted #? This morning, I called his campaign manager to complain, and ask how they got my number. If anyone else wants to do the same, the number is 206-313-6839. Leave a message, though it's doubtful anyone will call back.

JenV, did they ask for you by name? I have an unlisted/d.n.c. number and still get all kinds of charity and political calls. I assume they just dial random numbers in an area code, and aren't specifically targeting me. Couldn't they also get numbers from any voter petition we sign?
Personally, I'd rather have robo calls than a live person/advertiser, who won't take no for an answer. Fast forward, delete, or hangup.

no, they just left a message - like they all have. I mentioned this in another thread - I don't put my number out there for any reason ever - because it's a cell phone. It's a mystery to me.
It's just annoying - it's one of the reasons I gave up having a land-line - because I didn't want telemarketing calls - and that is what these are - just trying to get me to buy some candidate's BS. After today it's over....for a few months, anyway!

That is surprising that they would have a cell phone number. I'd be annoyed too, in that case.
