From about 1959 to 1972 there was an World War II fighter plane (a Grumman F2 Wildcat) that was sitting in a South White Center play field.
Open to the weather and beat up by many children climbing on it, the plane is now in the hanger of the Museum of Flight Restoration Center at Payne Field.
Does anyone know of any photos of it as it was sitting in the playground?
Any photos, even old snapshots would be a big help as there is only one in their archive.

You may try a visit to the White Center Chamber of Commerce. I remember that plane and use to play on it. http://www.whitecenterchamber.org/

Two terrific historical societies are available. They very well might have shots of Astroland in their archives. The Highline Historical Society (http://www.highlinehistory.org/index.html) and the Southwest Seattle Historical Society (http://www.loghousemuseum.info/)

I don't know if you are still monitoring this post. You can still see that airplane that was in the front yard across from Astro-land. That was a Hell cat (I believe) and it's in the Museum of flight in Seattle right now. I used to work with the restoration manager at the MOF and he said that plane is one in the same as the one that was in White Center. He used to play on it too as a kid. Also, the old Astro-land Rocket slide is rusting in the back yard of a house on the Kent East hill. Someone should save that.

Just finished watching American Restorations where they restored a rocket slide. Reminded me of the one in White center. In about 1967 my friends dad would take us to the park in his Austin Healey. I was telling my wife that there was something else there but I could not remember what that was, just the neatest thing like a tank that we used to climb on. Googled and found this forum and now can remember the plane! Was a magical trip for a couple of nine year olds!
