Does anyone know what organization is represented by those young people on opposite corners of the junction, holding posters of Obama with the Hitler mustache? Is it Larouch, or teabaggers or what? I've never seen this in person, though I've seen the pictures of these posters. In person, it's horrific. That these young people are capable of appropriating the image of the person responsible for the murder of 6 million Jews, and dishonoring the incomprehensible suffering perpetrated by the Nazis in order to further their stupid propaganda tricks, just took my breath away. I told one of them that he should be ashamed of himself, to which he petulantly replied "I'm not." I told two others in passing "You guys are disgusting," to which they politely replied "Thank you." Whoever they are, they have a serious problem with reality and are heartless little bas____s.

Obama/Hitler Posters on Alaska Junction

I don't know who they are, but I learned a while ago that sometimes there's just no point in talking to people like that. You may feel like you have to say something before they do any harm, but I think the reality is that they mostly make themselves look bad and only convince people that already agree with them.
Posted 1 month ago # -
Pretty sure it's LarouchePAC. Not very good at getting their message out if they don't even identify themselves!
Posted 1 month ago # -
Yeah, about 99% sure it's LaRouche. I used to see them around UW when I was in grad school about 4-5 years ago. They showed up near where I work now last summer, but a) they didn't come on campus, I suspect because it's a private institution, and b) summer session is DEAD so I doubt they got much traffic.
You could do what some friends of mine did when they were at UW. They made up signs parodying LaRouche and marched around with tinfoil hats on...

Are these the same guys who paraded around with posters of Bush looking like a monkey? You know, Bush lied people died - or some such sort.
Do they wear pink shirts while disrupting civil conversation and throw pies in the faces of people they disagree with?
Very irritating, I agree.
Posted 1 month ago # -
It's LaRouche. About half a dozen people have e-mailed us about this in the past couple hours, which surprises me because they have been around at various spots for quite a while. They were at Westwood a couple weeks ago. Maybe new generation of "La-WHO?" Anyway, for anyone who missed it, a local Twitter user posted a photo to his feed.
http://twitpic.com/10dz8gYou can see the LaRouche logo on the poster.
Another Twitter user claimed the police came and broke them up in the past hour or so. What merited a police call, I don't know.
Posted 1 month ago # -
If you foolishly attempt to talk to a LaRouche supporter it is an interesting experience. They descend on you in pairs with classic intimidation and brainwashing techniques. If you challenge them with facts or reason they quickly become hostile. How ironic that they choose to use an image of Hitler when their own approach is so classically fascist. Is LaRouche even alive? If so, who cares?
Posted 1 month ago # -
I got into a pretty heated debate with one of them regarding the banking meltdown last year. He ran out of scare tactic phrases after about 2 minutes and I figured out he had NO IDEA what he was talking about and moved on. I wouldn't waste your time trying to have any meaningful conversation with them- they have no credibility.

As much as people like this bug the pi$$ out of me, there is worse. I lived in KS for the last 8 years and although KS itself is not bad, it does contain Fred Phelps and and westboro baptist church. At least these Laduche (spelling?) folks don't have 4 year olds holding up signs saying, "GOD HATES FAGS" and "Thank god for IED's". Trying to discuss anything with them is a nightmare. So my final point, if anyone wants to go out with some comical counter protest signs, count me in!
Posted 1 month ago # -
i wish i could find a way to find that kind of ignorance funny
Posted 1 month ago # -
DOC, I believe it is spelled "LaDouche."
-
Oh, and Smitty, Bush did, and people have.
And we all look a lot like the monkeys and apes we are so closely related to.Posted 1 month ago # -
Smitty and Dawsonct, I can actually do quite a good monkey face. I pull my ears out and blow up my cheeks. It's pretty darn good. And thanks for the spelling tip Dawsonct, I didn't want to be that direct, but I'm glad that my point was appreciated.

We completely agree with you and have found their poster to be extremely offensive. They don't seem to care. :( I hope they leave West Seattle!
Posted 1 month ago # -
Curious if these clowns show up tomorrow and join the good 'ol Alaska Junction/All-Walk/stupid sign/War Protest/sit in?
That seems to have fizzled a bit since "the One" added 50,000 troops to Afghanistan, but I'm sure they will return in force soon! Right?
Be loud! Be proud!
Posted 1 month ago # -
Smitty, what do you mean by "That seems to have fizzled a bit since "the One" added 50,000 troops to Afghanistan, but I'm sure they will return in force soon! Right?"
What has fizzled? A war protest is a great thing. Obama with a hitler stash, not so much of a great thing. He is not, nor ever was "the one", but he is a lot better than the village idiot we had in the past.Oh, and since when does 30k=50k?Posted 1 month ago # -
DOC,
By village idiot, do you mean Greg Nichols,
the urban village mastermind?I agree making Obama look like Hitler is BS., but I also see Smitty's point that all of our politicians are fair game. I'm just thankfull we
live in a country where you have the right to
protest!Posted 1 month ago # -
I am in favor of protests..
if anything can be called the American Way
Standing up for what you believe in has to qualifybut mindless name-calling?
personal slurs?not so much.
the ugliness that is sold to us as political discourse these days would have gotten mouths washed out with soap in my youth...
maybe mom had a better idea than i thought
Posted 1 month ago # -
Dunno, no I was talking about Bush, refering to the phrase, "somewhere in Texas, a village is missing their idiot". I am all about comparing someone (Bush) to a chimp because it implies a limited mental capacity. However there of course is the problem with being able to compare Obama to a primate because it is seen as a racial comment regardless of the intent behind the comparison. However comparing just about anybody to hitler is going a bit too far for me, even if the comparison is Bush or Cheney.
Posted 1 month ago # -
Smitty...
your insinuation that the anti-war protests are just more of the same bipartisan bickering bothers me.
that you would attribute lowered numbers of protesters in the junction during flu season to "the One" adding "50,000 troops to Afghanistan" only illustrates the partisan filter through which you look at the world.
I can't speak for the individuals who have the stamina and the persistence to stand up for what they believe in at the junction every week..
but as a long term "peacenik" I can assure you that war waged by democrats is no more palatable than war waged by republicans.
Instead of making fun of those protesters...
you might ask yourself if you care enough about anything...
to face public ridicule by standing up publicly for what you believe in...
week after week... year after year.Agree with them or not...
you have to admire their perseverance.Posted 1 month ago # -
JoB, we've disagreed on issues in the past, but not this one. I think it's important that we can disagree in a civilized manner, and come together again for the common good. Your last post was quite eloquent; thank you for it!
Posted 1 month ago # -
Again I don't like the name calling ect. Lets face the facts, there were the same posters depicting Bush as Hitler, and a lot worse. I remember going the WS street fair several years ago and a vulgar bumper sticker about Bush was on display at the Dem's booth.
I guess that OK for kids to see though.Posted 1 month ago # -
The Hitler pic is stupid and has been applied to Bush and others by the LaRouchie nutcrowd but the thing I saw at the Junction display that makes their trip a little more offensive is the addition of racism to their bag of tricks. They had a big sign reading "Obama is a cracker!" Now, I know that the term cracker means a white Southern bigot. Its a race-baiting term and I asked the guy how Obama could be considered a cracker. He just looked at me and said "You're a Fascist".
Obviously, the dumba** doesn't know what a cracker is or what a fascist is. For people that are putting up a table in a public place to advocate for a cause, their manner of speaking to people who bother to stop and chat isn't very inviting. I chose to move on rather than waste time talking to a human fence post.
I do appreciate the war protesters who persevere in advocating for a worthy cause in the face of an apathetic public. the wars we are currently involved in are morally and practically wrong whether prosecuted by Dems or Repubs (tho its certainly Repubs who started them and kept the price off budget as they looted the Treasury for their Military-industrial cronies)

JoB,
My "filter" is NPR, MSNBC and DailyKoS if you really want to know. I enjoy listening to the other side - it reinforces my views (for the most part) and yes - on occasion changes them. Can't say the same for the other side (at least the ones I know) as they also listen to NPR, watch MSNBC and read DailyKos.
It always makes me wonder which side really has the "open mind".
And as to: "face public ridicule by standing up publicly for what you believe in...week after week... year after year."
I agree, but they need to keep it up! You own both houses of congress and the White House. Now is the time for (Hope and) change!
Posted 1 month ago # -
Smitty..
you read Daily Kos every day and can say that "we" own the White House and Congress with a straight face?
You must overlook terms like conservative democrats and blue dogs thinking they are some kind of joke... or have missed the Emperor Leiberman's latest performance...
If only... tho to be honest i am not so sure it would make any difference since our elected officials are owned by their campaign donors...
My brain isn't tracking well enough to source this.. but someone suggested recently that our elected officials should be required to wear their sponsorships like Nascar drivers.. to make it easier to follow the money...
Of course, that won't happen. This illusion only persists if we can trick ourselves into all thinking this is just bipartisan quibbling.
As for listening to NPR to get the "other"side????
Is that the same NPR that chose to recap the life of Howard Zinn on All things considered on January 28 by giving David Horowitz airtime to criticize his lifetime contributions?
When William Buckley died, NPR remembered him with 6 commentators who didn't bother to mention his stand on apartheid... not to mention his comments regarding segregation in the south... or to criticize this great thinker in any way.
Perhaps it's the same NPR that on another program characterized Obama supporters as the far left fringe of the left?
The same NPR that didn't question int he same program why organizations that can deliver record numbers of calls to Congress on a issue are given less political weight than far fewer calls from the teabaggers?
Calling NPR or MSNBC left is overlooking a great deal of their programming. I hate to keep repeating this... but left of far right isn't left.
If you want to hear the rhetoric of the left.. not the pseudo i am really republican in everything but party affiliation left.. try LINK TV or Air America... They can be real eye openers.
I too listen to and read the great American middle... and thanks to keeping up with conservative grandchildren i visit sites like the Heritage Foundation far more often than i think is healthy for my sanity.
I confess. i refuse to tolerate a daily dose of FOX TV commentators or Rush Limbaugh even for the sake of broadening my horizons. I am too biased towards rational thought and fact based arguments and the inclusion of Sarah Palin as a commentator is a good indication they aren't moving in that direction any time soon:(
But i have read Rush.. much to my chagrin.. since he once had pride of place on my son's bedroom shelf. And i have read Cheney... and i often go far beyond the front page of the Heritage Foundation and other similar sites.
I also avoid the daily KOS.. i don't think he does rational argument any service... he is often as inflammatory about the left as Russ or FOX is about the right...
The truth is that this polarization and inflammatory political doublespeak is designed to remove all sanity from political discourse and from voting.
It really is in the best interests of those corporations who have become super people.. all the rights and then some and none of the responsibilities... to determine the winner through the best advertising campaign.
And for those "clowns" at the junction????
I couldn't stand at that Junction every week.. i couldn't maintain that kind of optimism... believing that doing so would make a difference...
i speak up from the safety and warmth of my living room... not on a public streetcorner where people can throw words or worse... been there.. done that...can't do it any more :(
Knowing just how difficult that kind of commitment is... i think it's pretty easy to place expectations.. rain or shine.. sickness or health.. personal conflicts aside... on them... that you wouldn't keep yourself. Think about what it would take to walk a mile in those shoes.
I respect them a great deal for their commitment no matter how many or how few days each individual shows up. it takes guts i don't have to keep at it as long as they have.
One think i can guarantee.. stop to talk with them and you will find intelligent articulate people who care deeply about their cause and understand it well enough to defend it.
Who knows, given the opportunity, they might just change your mind..

Being a Independent I too want to hear all points of view. To me Sarah Palin is about the biggest turn off ever.
On the other hand I think Hilary Clinton is doing a splendid job, and would love to see her in the oval office. In fact she and Obama should swap in 2012.BTW, Air America is on its last leg. Bankrupt.
Posted 1 month ago # -
Dunno..
i confess that i don't listen to air america enough to care for myself.. mostly because of their shock radio tendency...
but it is sad to see any voice on the left go under.
knock on wood.. so far LINK TV is doing well.
without them, i can't think of a single articulate media outlet that is willing to take on substantive left programming.
as for Hillary.. i couldn't agree with you more for many reasons..
but that is a fight i already fought and lost here :)

Smitty, Stop trying to rationalize with progressive viewpoints.
They hate Palin, Sarah not Michael, because she is not part of the indoctrination movement of the closet Marxist. You will never hear them credit someone who actually disagrees with them because the mirror cracks when looked into.
The LaRouchies have every right to protest. I was surprised when I first saw them. Maybe we should do some comparison shopping. I wish they wouldn't do that but it was always OK to call Bush Hitler. God forbid the miguided chosen one from get tarred with a stache.
Oh to align yourself with the radicals. To speak of the constitution as a negative set of liberties. To chastise Americans who have faith and cling to their guns. To set forth principles and programs that are anti capitlist and force a possible economic ball and chain for future generations. To push cap and trade when the global warming fallacy is falling apart. To make the federal government your mother when that job should be left to the states. Bill Clinton got it for the most part.
Obama's progressive agenda is the culmination of many years of quiet revolution. Many Dems and Repubs are complicit. Goebbels learned propoganda from the US. Even the Obama high school intrnships require reading of a certain author named Alinsky.
So in many ways we could also put a Stalin moustache on Bush. McCain. Obama. Kerry. We could put a Mao hat on them too. If you think it is chic to
wear Che then they have already got you.Let them protest. Let no more Patriot Acts pass. Do not let your liberties be corrupted by the Federal Government. Although tasteless and stupid they drive people to ponder other choices.
Funny what too much cold medicine will bring out.

HMCRich..
the same people who are picturing Obama as Hitler and calling him a cracker called Bush Hitler.
And there is a basis to the call... though it should be Mussolini since fascism is the root of the charge. Facism... that's where government's main purpose is to facilitate the profitability of big business.
We love our big businesses so much we have given them personhood...
As for Sarah.. i don't hate her... i don't hate anything without substance. It's not what Sarah believes that is the bigger problem. It's that she has no more clue how to defend her beliefs than the LaRouche kids on the corner. When backed into the corner of her ignorance she responds with racism and bigotry every time... just like they do.
Which brings us to protest. A protest shouldn't be measured by it's shock value.. but by it's content.
the LaRouche kids fail on content...
their only intent is shock.BTW... have you read Saul Alinsky?
wikipedia describes him as "one of the great American leaders of the nonsocialist left"did you notice the word nonsocialist?
he was a great community organizer but not so far up the lefty tree.
You might find much to appreciate in his works :)Posted 1 month ago # -
Wow Rich, you got all the NRC talking points in there. Impressive. Wrong, but impressive.
Posted 1 month ago # -
I sit here this morning imagining Sarah Palin as president TODAY...dealing with healthcare, 2 wars, Haiti, unemployment, a budget that everyone approves of, foreign policy, and on and on. I don't hate her...I don't hate, period (well, maybe cancer, have been there). I just believe that she's not capable, that there's a bit of air in her head, if you will. It's a scary thought, imagining her dealing with all of this, making a coherent SOTU, etc., etc. Then imagining her abdicating like she did in Alaska.
Posted 1 month ago # -
JanS...
you aren't meaning to imply that Sarah would create a mess and then run away are you???
Just because she has done it a couple of times now doesn't mean she would again.
We don't have an emperor of the world position yet :)
Warning: This comment is laced heavily with sarcasm. It may be dangerous to your mental health if taken too seriously.

I'm fairly certain that Sarah was running for VP.
I'm not the biggest Palin fan in the world, but I certainly think she is as (if not more) capable of a VP then Mr. Biden. Years of service does not necessarily mean ready the lead.
With Biden or Palin in charge right now I would be frightened.
Posted 1 month ago # -
Smitty...
Joe Biden can articulate not only the substance of a policy but the reasoning behind it.
Whether you like his stand on those policies or not, you have to admit that ability gives him a major lead in the Biden/Palin as standing president horse race.
Sarah Palin may be an effective politician.. at least she is good at stirring the wordless masses.. but according to her own running mate's crew... she isn't so good at taking direction... and she would really need a significant amount of direction to govern.
if she can't handle an interview with Katie Couric.. she is likely to have a really tough time holding her own in international negotiations.
Sarah Palin is all PR and no substance... which is a real disappointment to me.
The republicans could have fielded a woman of substance... and Sarah is what they chose. The choice of Sarah says a lot more about the republican leadership and their lack of respect for their own party members than it does about those who bought the massive PR job that sold them Sarah.
I won't even comment on what that choice says about the Republican leadership's lack of respect for women. You have only to look at what states still have not ratified the ERA to know where that stands.
Posted 1 month ago # -
A presidential footrace with Biden and Palin. He would lose because you can't run with a foot in your mouth.
JanS, You know, she cannot have done any worse than the sitting President who has essentially stunk it up this first year. So maybe there would be a comparison. He needed more seasoning too. Geez, at least Sarah only talks out of one side of her mouth. Obama is two faced. Cajoling a group then blaming them. I hope I get to meet him so he can bow before me some day. He is a wimp, a wuss, and a rotten ad libber. He sure looked presidential with his telepromptor in the sixth grade class the other day. He needed a telepromptor to talk to kids!!! Pathetic.
The Democrats held a filibuster proof majority before Scott Brown was confirmed and couldn't pass Healthcare Reform which was his number 1 priority. He should be incensed. Unemployment according to him wasn't supposed to go over 8 percent, but did, even with his stimulus and outrageous budget getting passed. The debt ceiling was just raised to spend more money you and I don't have. His poliicies are going to run Deficits in the Trillions and are 3 times what Bush did. Although not his fault, he is ignoring our other deficit causing programs like SSN and Medicare. And if you wanted a Senate Healthcare Bill passed, why would you keep attacking Las Vegas?
Since the top 10 percent wage earners pay 70 percent of the income taxes, how much more is he going to "sock it to the fat cats"?
Above I questioned his intelligence, but I also have to give him credit for his fascist work. Owning Banks, Major Industries like GM or Chrysler. Paying off the Unions. Demonizing the Chamber of Commerce, Small Business, and parts of the media. Bringing on Pharmaceutical and Insurance companies and then lambasting them as greedy. Bush may have had Halliburton according to many of my leftist friends but it seems the Current Administration is in bed with Big Business more than the former. But, at least Government Employment grew while the private sector contracted. This is as bad or worse at the Patriot Act.
THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE LIMITED IN SIZE AND STRENGTH BY THE STATES. This is how the founders wanted it. The larger the Federal Government grows the weaker our country will become.
This is unsustainable. He needs to drop his progressive power structure path and accept, the constitution, capitalism, and states rights. If he does not the American Electorate will vote in the opposite of what he is. It is already happening. Pelosi and Reed don't get it, but maybe Mr. Obama will, but I think he will be too late.
He can only blame some of the failed policies of the Bush administration for so long. Comparing Clinton to Bush, Bush grew government more. The Republicans in the House and Senate blew it with Bush. They have and will be voted out just like the far left democratic house members will be soon.
JoB, the left and other segments of the population, have willingly adopted Mr. Alinsky's points. It is on the suggested reading list of the NEA (not surprising). It has been published by the United States government since the Reagan years. Rules for Radicals is easy to access. I know that all sides of the political spectrum read his work. He was never able to target the middle class like he wanted to. I have only read pieces. I have read more about his history than his books. Generally, a right leaning author would not give a shout out to Satan at the beginning of a book. I guess it was a means to an end.
Which begs the question. Are the LaRouchies also using his tome? Do they have a different one?

HMC Rich,
I'm sure one of the frequent posters is already composing a full rebuttal to your statements, but let me just make one point. When President Obama went to Japan and bowed to Emperor Akihito, it was not a sign of weakness or subservience. Rather, it was a sign of respect. And when our President pays respect to leaders of other countries, he earns the respect of their citizens and leaders. This makes America more influential among nations; it does not make us weaker.
Posted 4 weeks ago # -
HMC could you pepper that with some sources or facts, instead of just talking points?
Posted 4 weeks ago # -
Reality check HMC Rich. Here's a visual chart to make it easier on you to see just how much the government owns. You can stop worrying about socialism any time soon.

HMCRich...
if i can ever stop laughing long enough i am sure i will find a place to start on a reply to your diatribe...
You think Joe Biden suffers foot in mouth? As compared to whom? Sarah? Thanks for the belly laugh.
You mention that you haven't actually read Saul Allinsky's work while feeling qualified to denounce it because you "know" his history... OMG... too much humor at one sitting...
You really should read the man before you trash him. You are in for some real surprises when you do... he is not at all what the web sites you visit report.
As for that blame game you think we are playing.. still blaming the failed policies of the Bush administration when they nearly resulted in the largest financial crash this nation has ever seen? geez... it's not like it isn't justified.
looking at cause and effect is how you learn not to repeat the same really stupid mistakes over and over again... labeling it a blame game really misses the point...
Blaming Obama because he couldn't pull us out of the mess George W and his crew created fast enough doesn't make much sense either.
That's like blaming the unemployed for not finding another job fast enough.. regardless of the economic circumstances or the 8 million jobs lost since the Bush administration facilitated the economic meltdown...
we are lucky it has only been 8 million jobs so far.. and that there are still more of us with jobs than without...
you want the size of the federal government limited? You are playing for the wrong team. Your crew never met a government program they didn't like.. unless of course it actually provided a service to the people instead of a handout to big business.
There is a republican holding up all work in the Senate right now until his pork barrel projects are approved... somehow i don't think that is a plus for state's rights.. it's just out and out greed.
you really need to do a reality check on those talking points.. somewhere other than the conservative websites where you get them...
so much reality... so little you can find on conservative websites :(
Posted 4 weeks ago # -
Rich, are you really so blind to the FACTS, or are you just demonstrating selective memory? Too bad ideology trumps intellect for you.
President Obama hasn't tripled the federal deficit, they have just decided to put all the expenses on one book as opposed to using accounting tricks to hide the expenses incurred by The War To Liberate Our Oil.
-
So many more of the "facts" you stated are simply just RNC talking points, re-warmed and regurgitated.Posted 4 weeks ago #
