   Has anyone else noticed more crackheads than normal around lately? This last week it seems like every morning I walk out to my car there is another crackish person walking by...this morning this guy was rummaging through a backpack while walking that was fairly obviously not his.

   Big assumption on your part that they are crackheads. Perhaps they are just homeless.

   When a friend noticed increased activity around his house the police told them to take notes of comings and goings, if you are out in your yard wave at them and make sure they know you see them (stay safe of course) and take pictures from your house.

   Contact the police department and they can assign you an officer to work with, this helps the police to make a case and lets the people that want to be invisible know they are not.

   I stepped back from this topic today to think.

   Reporting what looks like drug behavior to the police is always a good idea.. they will step up patrols in the area if they get enough complaints.

   but Cait is right, if the behavior merely makes you uneasy and isn't bothering you... it's a harder call.

   let's add to that the fact that many mentally ill people look and act just like crackheads without causing any of the criminal activity that goes along with the need to fund a crack habit.

   Are you sure enough about what you are seeing to report it to the police or sure enough to begin taking pictures from the safety of your home?

   You are the only one who can judge the appropriate response since you are witnessing the events.

   If you think there is a real problem developing.. you should notify the police for your own safety and that of your neighbors.

   The other morning, after dropping my daughter off at pre-school, I was stopped at the intersection of Cali/Lander, waiting to turn left past Hiawatha playfield, and a girl (looked to be in her late teens - late twenties. honestly tough to gauge since she was so "hardened") was walking incredibly slow across the crosswalk, step... step... pause... step... step... pause... staring at the ground. At first I thought she may have been handicapped, and just needed extra time, but then I caught a glimpse of her expression and realized she was most likely high on something. I realized my doors were still unlocked, and not being one of those who care if people see/hear me locking my doors in front of them, I reached over and hit the switch. She walked right over to the car, less than a foot away, on the passenger side, looking at my dash, almost looking through it since it didn't appear she could focus on much. Her coat and large clothing was hanging off of her, and she had a dirty purse slung partially over her shoulder. At first, I was seriously disturbed and a bit unnerved as I waited for the light to change, hoping she wasn't going to attempt to open the door or lunge at the car (both of which I've had happen). But after I drove away, the mom in me almost felt like turning around and trying to figure out what exactly was wrong with this girl, and see if I could get her help. I wish I'd have called someone to report it, and I feel badly now that I didn't. I just hope she made it somewhere, safely.
