   I'm a low-key, tolerant guy. I like bikes. I've thought about getting one, but I don't think I would ride it here during the rainy season. That said, here at 41st and Admiral, some (certainly not all or even a majority) of these riders can be inconsiderate jackholes. They will sit at the light revving the engine and then will gun it when the light turns green. Or they'll race eastbound, which looks like they are easily topping 60mph. This occurs several times a day on the weekends when the weather is nice (I've come to appreciate the rainy days) and as late as 2-ish am. I can count on either tonight or tomorrow night being scared wide-awake.

   If anyone wants to start a campaign for a noise ordinance that includes ridiculously loud bikes and their obnoxious riders, sign me up.

   I suspect the existing noise ordinance should cover it--if it were only to be enforced! And enforcing it would also get the loud car stereos, leaf blowers, etc.

   People who like their motorcycles loud would complain about an ordinance singling out motorcycles as unfair. On the other hand, it seems unfair to me now that they are "singled out" as exemptions to existing noise ordinances. If I were to WALK down the street carrying something as loud as these motorcycles, or ride a bicycle outfitted with such a device--I doubt I'd get away with it.

   On the other hand, Julie, the novelty value of a bicycle with tail pipes would almost be worth the annoyance.

   Can't tell you how many times a driver has been startled to see my motorcycle next to them just because it is so quiet. Loud pipes save lives. It might help if they turned down their stereo and paid attention to traffic all around. if you rode a motorcycle, you would understand.

   Now don't get me started with most of the Vashon commuters on their motorcycles...I wish the noise was THE only problem. They are in such a hurry, and feel very privlekged that they are on "bikes". Where is a COP when you need one?

   there is loud
   and then there is LOUD

   unfortunately those who think LOUD is ok
   have likely lost enough hearing to tell the difference..

   at least..
   that is what hubby tells me when he turns my car stereo down

    I ride a motorcycle. Can't stand loud ones. There are good motorcycles and bad ones. Just like there are car drivers that are good and those with extremely loud stereos, talking on cell phones and I even saw one who turned her rear view mirror so she could do her hair while making a left turn and nearly took out the KFC!

    What I wish (and would make the city tons of money) is to ticket all the people who park ON or ACROSS a sidewalk (such a pain when taking a walk), facing the wrong way (can't tell you how many times I've been nearly hit head on by these people crossing over to park on the wrong side).

    If they enforce existing laws, things would be better.

    yea...I rode ... but the jack--- who comes down Genesee Hill at 3AM with straight pipes through his Harley would never convince me his motivation was "getting attention" of zoned out auto drivers. But, as I grab another blood pressure tab... I remember being 22 years old and... well.. hell the chicks loved it. eeenie meene weeine and all.
