   spitting in public is disgusting. Consider someone with TB, who doesn't know it...they spit, your child touches...gross. It happened to a friend of mine, and , yes, her daughter had to be treated for TB. Spitting in public is a guy thing, and a BIG turnoff. We may not be able to stop people from doing it, through a law like this, but we do need to educate people how unsanitary it is.

   Next the smokers will be up in arms about the proposed no smoking in parks. Granted, we can't outlaw smoking everywhere (wish we could), but where do these people discard their cig. butts. They certainly don't put them in their pockets and carry them home. They just throw them on the ground wherever they are, not even making sure they're out. Now consider a drought type summer with dry brush in parks...now consider Lincoln Park and all it's beauty, old growth, burning.

   There are practical reasons for proposing these things, although in theory would be hard to enforce.

   They can't even enforce dogs who are off-leash in parks Jan. I guess farting and scratching my rear end shall be illegal too since its disgusting.

   Banning smoking isn't going to reduce the cigarette butt litter. The people who toss their butts on the ground already do not care about the law or the environment, so another law isn't going to stop them from smoking or littering in the parks.

   KBear.. You are correcto. I wonder why there never was a law passed that if you threw your butts onto the ground you should be fined if an officer saw you doing that. Now that would alone help the state get in the black again. But I think the state makes money from tobacco companies that's why.

    there is a law against littering...probably not enforced unless it's really, really blatant. Your farting and scratching you butt, jiggers, is nt dangerous to anyone else's health (lol - I certainly hope not), it's just disgusting. And I did preface the above with knowing that while it would be nice to prevent spitting, and smoking in parks, it's not gonna happen. It's unenforceable. That doesn't mean we have to like it.

    KBear, you're right. People are quick to bitch if their rights are "taken away", but will be scofflaws and think nothing about it.

    Just don't anyone chew gum in Singapore...totally against the law, because the gov't. was against people discarding their used gum on outdoor furniture, and on the ground.

    they had to modify the law, but there are penalties. Always thought it kind of harsh, since you can't save some people from themselves by making a law.

    omg, sometimes the smells on metro are so overwhelmingly noxious, from alcohol, cigarettes, farts, or lack of any bathing

    one time this guy behind me ripped one so loud and long, followed by such horrific smell, I almost threw up

    I don't know why they list all the different codes of conduct since the first thing on the list pretty much covers EVERYTHING!!!
    "Conduct that deprives others of their use or enjoyment of a park or facility or disrupts parks business"
    And I just want to add that two things that deprive me of the enjoyment of a park are ugly people and children. Ugly people with ugly children should be shot (outside of the park of course)

    Spitting is in the same category as urination and defecation. It spreads disease. Period. As a gardener in a public park, I often wish I had a hazmat suit -- and it's getting worse all the time.

    How about a law against geese pooping in the park? I think that would be a greater benefit than "no spitting", and just as enforceable.
